Fixing a Pond/Enlarging a Pond
I have a friend who bought a property with a pond. They are considering enlarging the pond. They may need to drain it to do so.
I am wondering if someone can refer me to some people that may do the following:
1. Look at pond.
2. Determine if it needs to be drained to be enlarged.
3. Once drained, enlarged and refilled with water; advise on how to stock it.
By the way; we are not sure that there is a natural spring.
Thank you for all replies.

Look at page 2. I would start there. Hope that helps....

I have always heard the the KY fish and wildlife would help out on these kind of things. Of course I also heard they will help stock the lake/pond but you have to allow others to fish for so many times a year.

I checked into the KDFWR angle a couple years ago. They will help with advice and/or labor. They stated that you did not have to open your water to the public. I did not pursue it any further so I don't know all the details. I would call them for details before you rule them out completely. They would have access to any info you need on how to renovate the pond correctly.

Kerry Prather did an excellent job putting together that pamphlet. I've never met him, but I've emailed him questions before and he's very helpful. A friend of mine has a pond that Kerry helped him stock, and he's done really well with it. Here's a listing of all the District Fisheries Biologists: http://fw.ky.gov/fishbiol.asp?lid=682&NavPath=C101C139
Pick yours from the list and contact them. They'll be an invaluable resource. And no, you don't have to allow the public to fish your lake.
