Obviously the posts you were referring to are "spam". I deleted them this morning...sorry but I do not sit in front of my computer all day just watching for posts like that to appear and neither does Peter. Next time you seen one like that, click on the alert symbol and send an alert message to the monitors...that way when we next get on our computers one of us will see your message in our email and fix the problem.
Thanks for the explanation Dave.
Peter
Hey Peter:
I have been doing as Dave Stewart said all along. A lot of these spam are appearing on the IN forums and not the KY forums for some reason.
I thought that the email were being send to Peter. Who gets the email when we click on the Alert for Bad Post icon? Does it go to the moderators or the site's adm? That's not very obvious.
It's obvious that they are going to keep this up until they get blocked by email address or ip address. And obviously it's going to take some effort to stop them. It's easier to just block their IP address and re block it if they get a new on. This can easily be done in the Administrator's control panel when using this forums software. Vbulletin 3.6.4 makes it very easy to do this if you have adm rights.

Dave ,
I dont "sit" in front of the computer all day either and understand its tough to keep track of but if someone would check first thing in the morning you could catch it before someone underage see's that kind of thing . Or maybe use the software Moose is talking about .

I do check it the site pretty much every morning before I go on the water but my morning is around 3:00 a.m...I have not seen many alerts from the Indiana board...mostly just the off topic board. Maybe Peter can block them out, hopefully so, until then send in the alerts. I will keep checking when I can, as will the other moderators.
By the way, Moose, when you click on the alert and send a message it goes to all the moderators.

Most of us mods check in first thing in the morning and several times a day. The Off-Topic forum gets hit a lot. I'll check in here more often as I did not realize there was a problem on the IN forum. We've been blocking emails and IPs as you suggested. Not sure that it is helping.

Hey Dave:
Thanks for the explanation. I always wondered who the alert was sent to.
I think that fishin.com does a pretty good job of moderation overall.
I think that this spammer is just pretty persistent and those types are harder to control than most.
The Vbulletin software that the site is using now is pretty powerful and can be very helpful in blocking spammers. Although it's not fool poof and computer geeks can get around the software if they wish.
I know that Peter is not a computer guy and he is learning how the software works over time. So he depends on the other mods to help him out. I think that you guys do a pretty darn good job too.
I can understand how some members would be upset if their kids read some of the spam posts also. That's unfortunate and I hope that all the mods will redouble their efforts to help bring this spam to a close.
Once they realize that they have to work harder at spamming that the mods do to stop the spamming they will give it up.
The Vbulletin software is very flexible and the site Adm can make other mods assistant Adm and give them more power to moderate the entire site and not just one or two forums.
Hey Andrew:
Thanks Andrew.

Actually, I don't think the spammer is physically doing the posting. I believe they have a bot set up to post their crap for them. Probably several of them doing it.

I am normally on line all day working. IF I was getting alerts I could get rid of these.. however I do not visit the board much any more, I am too vocal.. so I only post info when I come in normally or news.
Send one or call me if you need to.. HOWEVER that said as of Saturday I WILL be gone for 10 days on vacation. OR EMAIL ME.. [email protected]
