Canoe and Kayak fishing by Cumberland
I go to Somerset every other weekend. I float fish Buck Creek and the Rockcastle River. I am looking for some new water to float fish. I would like some good smallie, pike, striped bass, hybrid striper fishing, or any other species. I will drive up to an hour from Somerset. If I could get any info that would be great like location, spots to put my kayak in, depths, types of lures, or fish size. If you don't want to post it send me a PM. Ronnie
Is there any where to put in at the Cumberland falls. How good is the fishing, what is caught, and what is the water depth.
Re: Canoe and Kayak fishing by Cumberland
The big south fork of the cumberland is always a good trip. There is a lot of information available for this protected area. Some challenging water, and great year- around fishing. Start your float at Devil's jump (blue heron) to avoid any portages and fish to the bridge at Yamacraw would be a good trip. Be prepared to catch anything, mostly s.m., but be on the look out for muskie. Check water level/ flow rate befor you go!
Enjoy

Also try the cumberland river at wolf creek dam. Lots of information on this board about this productive stretch of river. I've taken my sea kayak from the dam all the way to burksville. Great trout fishing.
