No Phil Potter Articles the past two weeks
Anyone else notice that the Evansville Courier and Press has stopped Phil Potter and Steve Fords outdoor hunting and fishing articles in the Evansville Sunday Paper the last two weeks?
I sure hope that the new editor that just took over that job is not doing away with the Hunting, Fishing and other outdoor articles.
That would be a bad sign. We need to do more to promote the Outdoor Sports. I look forward to each Sunday when I can read their articles.
I was reading some where on the Internet forums where the news papers were cutting back on these types of stories. I think there was a discussion about the Indianapolis Newspaper cutting back the number or outdoor columns being published last year. It turned out that they did not cut these articles out of the paper and that they actually were increasing the number of articles.
They have assigned Steve to do other sport reporting. So now he is covering golf and the other sports.
We need to contact the editor of the Evansville News Paper and ask them if they intend to keep these guys writing the outdoor columns.

Re: No Phil Potter Articles the past two weeks
The outdoor coverage by the local news media has always been lousy , not knocking Potter or Ford but even the Princeton paper does a better job . There always seems to be articles about fishing a local pond and catching some small bass and gill , or a trip they took to FL to fish saltwater or out west to elk hunt - oh boy that helps me here in southern IN ! The Bassmasters Classic may have had a small 30 word article and nothing about the FLW tournaments . Considering how much cash fisherman & hunters pay to keep wildlife areas going you would think it would garner more coverage . The fishing report is nothing more than Ford calling local bait shops , Tim Gibsons guide service at Patoka lake { the only one } & some guides at Barkley and asking whats biting . If the Evansville Press wants more outdoors men & women to buy papers try reporting a little more .
Re: No Phil Potter Articles the past two weeks
Hey guys, as an outdoor writer myself, I think you may be missing what the big problem is. They are not selling enough advertising to pay for the space in the paper. At an outdoor writers conference I attended a few years back, we listened to a seminar from a sports editor of a local paper in the Bristol, TN area, who explained that if they couldn't sell ads for the target audience, then there was not a fiscally responsible reason to continue to use the space.
When I sent a proposal for my current newspaper column to the editor there, I offered them ideas of who could buy ads for that particular page and it worked. They sold ads to a couple of bait and tackle stores and the column not only pays for itself, but makes a profit. It *****, but the bottom line is still the bottom line, even in journalism.

That Dateline NBC show got him. He is in jail right now.

Well that explains why his article was late to print on Sunday.
I emailed the editor and today I found the new Phil Potter Article.
I guess the Aliens must have broke him out of jail.

Harry Potter may take over the article.
It would take some wizardry for me to catch a fish right now. I have hit my summer slump. Like a pitcher who is 13-4 at the all-star break, and finishes the season 14-13.
That is how my season has slumped.
