Depends on what type of bass you want to catch. Guy said he caught a 28 inch striper on a minnow while fishing for crappie. I can catch dozens of hybrid striped bass on rooster tails. In fact, the biggest bass I've caught in that lake was a 3 pound largemouth on a rooster tail.
Fished yesterday morning and the only fish I caught was a 10" LM on chrome and blue rattletrap off of a creek mouth and that was it. I tried everything in the boat and couldn't buy a bite, on the other hand my 16 year old got tired of catching nothing a put on a white roostertail and wore the small bass and bluegills out; some of the bass were smaller than the rooster tail LOL.
fished there last sunday, wednesday, and yesterday and all three days i had a little luck. 12 last sunday biggest around 2 1/2, 8 wed biggest one 4.9 and had 13 yesterday with one around 4-4 1/2. most besides the ones above were 10- 13 inches. all fish were caught off the same point each day with a berkley chigger craw t-rigged and fished slow barley bouncing it off the bottom almost like fishing a jig. yesterday i had a huge bluegill mayde around 12-13 inches nail that craw. some guys fishing from the bank at possum ridge said they have been wearing hybrids and white bass out at night in front of the ramp using rooster tais. G/L let us know how you do.
Last wed the tree lines along the channel were very productive, flipping a jig and letting it fall next to the tree 6-10ft. Boat was it 40-50 ft of water and caught 20-25 LM, only 3 keepers with the biggest 4.5 lbs.
Are there any particular colors that work best in the craw or the jig?
How'd you do? What did the water look like? I almost rode down this afternoon, but remembered we had a ball game, maybe later this week!
The water looked pretty good, but I haven't been to Taylorsville in years to be able to judge it properly. Fishing was so-so, I ended up catching 5 largemouth with the biggest only being about 14". Caught 3 of them on a crankbait, one on a jig, and one on a buzzbait and all in different spots. I really didn't know much about the lake to go on but did manage a few.
One thing I didn't like about the lake is the d@%% wakeboarders.. its past labor day and the water is cooling off so there is no need for them to drive past my boat 30 times in a span of 10 mins when there is no other boat on the lake, you would think they would go find their own little spot but they chose to go by my boat numerous times with huge wakes rocking my boat.
Lake is 1' under winter pool. Water looked good--Temp 74 in the AM and 77 by 2 PM.
