Ky. Lake Info.???
Pulled off a spur of moment trip to Ky. Lake this week coming down Tues. - the weekend. Saw Dave Stewarts report from the 25th and wondering if there was any other guidance I could get before coming down. Fish mid-way down from the dam and the bridge. Like largemouth fishing early and then drifting channels for crappie and sauger late. Thanks in advance for your help. Technonorb
P.S. Anyone in the area of Hesters Resort at the end of the day and smelling Steaks on the grill stop in and join us.

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
Just came back from a week of fishing in the rain. Bass seem to be scattered. Caught some in the bays, deep water points, and on the main lake secondary channel in 4-5 feet of water. Only caught a few over the 15 inch limit. Caught a lot of small ones. Decided to troll in Sugar Bay with chrome rattle traps and really got into the stripers (Rockfish), Hybrids and White Bass. Caught a lot of Rockfish in the 4-5 pound range. Really made the trip worth while. Headed back down for a week over Thanksgiving. Bass should be in their full fall pattern by then.

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
Just got back from down at the KY/Barkley. I fished Thursday-Sunday. Thursday was great Friday it slowed,Saturday was bad and Sunday was even worse. We tried to fish shallow to deep water and caught very few fish the last two days. The shad are in the back of the creeks and bays but we could not hook any fish. Some guys told us that they caught several on white spinner baits on main lake points but that is all the info that they would give. Sorry I could not give more info. Ryan.

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
We found it tough on Ky on Friday and Saturday, all the reports I had indicated a pretty good bite on Barkley on those days. Yesterday the bite picked up for us on Ky and we had fish on virtually every spot we hit back shallow in the grass...blue glimmer spinnerbaits and sammy. Talked to some guys at a club weigh in yesterday that had fished Barkley...they said they had a great day prefishing on Barkley on Saturday but they couldn't get on fish there yesterday. Only 7 lbs to win their small club tourney. With the stable weather conditions forecasted this week and the water temps now down to the lower 60's I expect a good bite shallow on Ky this week. Don't let that smoke drift too far, I only live a few miles from Hester's and I get real hungry after a long day on the water...lol.

I fished Sat-Sunday in the area where you will be staying. Saturday, I struggled up til an hour before dark. Found what seemed like a thousand birds diving for shad back in a pocket (small creek) and I caught several quickly on a chrome rattle trap. Best was between 3-4 lb but most were in that same range. Sunday was tough also. Ran to Jonathan creek and caught several short fish shallow along creek channel banks but not a single keeper fish.

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
I fished from 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday on Kentucky Lake. Went out there for the first time since we had all of the rain last week. Started shallow in the backs and found that the water was about 5 degrees cooler than the main lake. After seeing that I started hitting pockets close to the main lake and catching the crap out of largemouth and yellow bass. There were no real size to them (mostly around 10"), but it was a blast. I had my girlfriend with me, and she was perfectly content catching the smaller fish, so I never went after the big'uns (plus she didn't like being in the wind on the main lake). Anyhow, we probably caught a good 50+ stringer of fish, all of them on tiny jerkbaits like a Pointer 97 and a Rapala Floating Minnow (about 4" long). The best places were the south bank in the Hester's Marina bay and northern side of the bay that some summer camp is in just north of the Hester's Marina bay. Didn't matter where you cast, the fish were so scattered and baitfish were everywhere! The water was so clear that you could see the strikes on your bait, and there was some good busting action on top - topwater baits didn't work, only got short strikes on those.

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
Hey.......
From all the reports, it looks like most people had a bad weekend..........BUT I had one of the BEST trips EVER to KY lake.............
Friday:
Started out Friday with GREAT action, started the day with a 5.5lb right from the rip-rap on fenton........From there, we fished LOTS of different area, including GRASS, in Sugar, Higgins, Smith, etc, etc.........After that, we headed to Jonathan Creek and fished RipRap, etc, etc........Caught 6 KEEPER greenfish, and lots of whites, and yellow bass. This was only a start to the weekend.
Saturday:
Got a REAL late start due to a BLOWN tire.......and spare back at home......MAN I ****
Got on the water by 10:00am, and fished Pisqua area. Caught some GreenFish and BrownFish that would have kept...........Around 3:00pm we found LOTS of baitfish in Smith, and started trying to target the bass. Threw topwater, cranks, jerkbaits, flukes, spinnerbaits, EVERYTHING known to man.........Finally, I tied on a #5 shadrap, and started HAMMERING them.
I caught 20 on 20 straight casts..........AND the continued catching whites, yellows, and LargeMouth bass until dark. We ended up catching 50-60 fish in 2-3 hours..........The SHADRAP definitely did the trick.........AND Man was it fun.......
For the day, we caught 10-12 largemouth with an average of 3 - 3.5lbs......and a Big Fish of just under 4.
With such a GREAT day on Saturday, and knowing I had to leave early sunday, we chose not to fish sunday, and headed home early.
It was so GREAT, I'm headed back the next couple weeekends.
Later,
Geo

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
I didn't have the best weekend with bass, other than the yellows - I couldn't stop catching those. Are the Yellow/white bass thicker than normal - I really have never caught that many - almost every cast. A few small green fish, but nothing to brag about. Hopefully this week will be better.

It's just all part of the fall schooling action! They're pretty good to eat, and pretty easy to load a freezer with them this time of year!
Seems pretty normal to me, but their numbers still seem fewer than years past. I remember in the mid 90's during the summer when I could get on the whites in the jumps and load the boat in no time at all. Back then, it was common to have 8 or 10 boats circled up around the school on a flat catching them two at a time! I haven't seen that in a long time! Used to be that Barkley Lake was pretty hot with them around the mouth of the canal, on the flats near the dam, on the flat by the Ashland Oil terminal, and around the island on the main lake near Buzzard Rock...I really miss those good ol' days! I was a white bass fisherman before I ever got into Largemouth fishing... :)

Re: Ky. Lake Info.???
i miss those days too... the flat coming out of kuttawa harbor that drops into the river... every afternoon from 3 or 4 til dark, 5 or 6 boats throwing flies behind a cork, wearing them out! i would fill up a cooler once a week and then fish the other 5 or 6 just for fun
