Louisville East End Trout
Miles Park Lake was recently stocked with trout. Good place to take the kids fishing. The trout are easy to catch right now and will likely be fished completely out in a few weeks. This lake is only 5 acres and easy to walk around, seen several small kayaks but there is no ramp. Trout were concentrated in the back (opposite the dam) part of the lake and were readily biting small spinners yesterday. I caught about 15 in just over an hour, took a couple home and let them go in my pond to see if they'd like it there - they do so far!
Park is across Shelbyville road from the Valhalla golf course. Good luck.
Re: Louisville East End Trout
I have also heard stripers are stocked in that lake. What do you know about those?
Re: Louisville East End Trout
Definitely a nice place to bank fish! It's kind of like a small fishing golf course, with five little ponds all right together!
Re: Louisville East End Trout
Sorry, I don't know anything about the Stripers. I can't really imagine them in there, it seems too small, shallow and murky, it's nothing more than a farm pond. But at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if they were being stocked in there. Heard some good sized catfish coming out of the corner by the dam (lake #4, the largest one). It's a peaceful place. I think I could go there, stand on my log and cast my spinner bait for hours even if there weren't any fish to be caught.

Hybrids, not stripers, definitely were stocked in that lake just about a year ago. I had a hard time believing it myself, so I emailed Kerry Prather (fisheries biologist with KDFWR), and he confirmed this. I mentioned that it seemed awfully small for them, and his response was that they were only put there to provide fishing opportunities, not to establish a population. I think they only did it because the hatchery produced a bumper crop of hybrids in 2006 (http://fw.ky.gov/070606.asp). I'm also virtually certain that they all died out. I fish there quite often, and haven't seen or heard of anybody catching any. But what I DID see Tuesday evening was a 12# catfish being caught there. Amazing, huh?
Re: Louisville East End Trout
BTW for anybody closer to Fairdale, Tom Wallace Lake was also stocked.
