Ohio River this past Saturday
River Report and Information: Stopped by the Newburg Indiana ramp this past Saturday around 8:00 am to check out conditions. Weather was nice and there were a lot of boats out on the water, 20 or more when I got there and a couple more pulled in before I left. With all that fishing, I hope there was some catching going on?
Water level was still up from the rains we had last week, but water clarity was good for the Ohio. Ramp is in good shape and the dock is still in place. However, if the river gets much higher, they will pull the dock out.
If anyone reading this post who went out on the Ohio Saturday or today, I would appreciate reading your report, with special interest in the Newburg Dam area.
I plan on fishing Newburg Dam a couple of days next week for sauger. Weather forecast looks good with a few days of clould cover.
Luck to all,
Gary
Re: Ohio River this past Saturday
I put in at the downtown Evansville ramp Sat. morning. The river is back to summer pool. The water has a considerable stain but I would not call it muddy which is good since last week it was up to 20'. I fished between Evansville and the Henderson bridge and the spots were ready to play. In two and a half hours I had four keepers and several shorts all on crankbaits. The river level was at about 13.5 and I notice this morning that it is showing a slow rise but is still in a typical summer time pattern. Next week the forecast calls for high winds so that will make it difficult........
Re: Ohio River this past Saturday
Thanks for the information. You were right about the high winds associated with the front which just moved through.
Looking at the current weather forecast and my honeydo list, I may try going to Newburgh Dam on Thurday (temp 35 in am to a high of 54 with winds SSW 16 mph) and again on Saturday (temp 32 in am to a high of 60 with winds SE 9 mph). Forecast is for partly cloudy sky on both days. Now, where are my long johns?.
