Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
Have you seen the Money Minnows and the Luck "E" Strike Minnows? These baits will catch some BIG BASS in 2008. The design looks awesome and I can't wait to figure out the best was to rig them.
I looked at the Money Minnow at Backwater's in Lexington last night. The Luck "E" Minnows are at BPShops... Throw a big one and hang on!!!
Re: Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
I bought some of the 5.5 inch basmagics at bass pro the other night. They look great. One of the guys at the reel counter showed me how they have theres rigged that they use in the fish tank.He says it makes it run perfect.I know its a 6/0 extra wide gap plus and a pack of 1/8 ounce non slip weights. When i get home ill look at what i got an give specifics. He also said they dont have the real hooks they been using in california yet but they have been experimenting with what they have and this set up he showed me has worked best so far.
Re: Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
swim bait got my PR, at Guntersville last year 8lb plus, fished w/guide spinnerbait kid, several over 4 &5 on a 4 hour trip
Re: Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
Thanks fisheater. I'll keep an eye out for that info... Swimbaits are for real. A lot of guys won't throw them because "they are too big or only work in clear water." I caught bass up to 5.14 on a Big Hammer swimbait a few months back right here in KY. This bait was every bit of 6" with the 3/4 oz. jig head attached. I caught a 12" bass on it as well.
Re: Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
The hooks are Owner wide gap plus size 6/0 and the weights are Rubber core sinkers size 1/8 oz.To rig them:take the eye of the hook through the chin of the bait till the eye sticks out of the mouth of the bait. Was told once you tie it on to keep the eye on the outside. Then you just rig it weedless like you would a fluke.Take the rubber core sinker and open it with a screwdriver and put it on the hook about a 1/4 in from where it comes out of the chin.He said without the weight it will roll like crazy. Also the bait is very soft and will not hold up well with out some super glue or ? so if these work as well as i hope they wont last long.I have not tried this and fished it yet, just relaying what i know so far.May try it out sometime this weekend.

Swim Baits??
Dum question from a New Bee (dumb angler) to Swim Baits. OK I'm a novice and need a little help. What is a swim bait? Is this ""Swim bait) targeted toward LM or other species as well.? Is this something I should consider putting in my tackel box for those central Kentuck clear water lakes?
Re: Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
a soft body bait very natural looking, imagine a shad or other natural lake fish any where from a few inches to as long as you can possibly throw, you can rig it yourself with a worm style hook & weight or its a complete bait hooks attached with a hard lip........the most obvious characteristic is the fact it comes through the water in a life like swimming motion, once you see it coming throught the water you'll reconize why it's called a swim bait Ky fish can tell you what's on sale at PBS, except for these swim baits, there relatively new and fresh, comparatively speaking...........
Re: Knock off Basstrix Swimbaits
Basically shad style baits that "swim" through the water column to produce strikes. Very hot on the pro tours this year and another technique that is making it to amateurs such as myself. the old sassy shad and any ole grub fished on a lead head were the original swim baits on this coast. the long john by larew tackle is another standby. out west the castaics were prob the first i heard of. now you have a whole bunch of companys making both hard and soft swim baits. i can tell you they catch fish of all sizes and i think are going to be most productive for the clear waters (dale and cumberland) that i fish alot. they catch lm, sm, spots and stripers. good luck and holler if you need more info.
