Lake Malone-Western Kentucky
Any of you guys do any fishing in Lake Malone? What do you fish for and any recommendations, especially for this time of the year?
Thanks for the help. Link to KDFWR given below.

Re: Lake Malone-Western Kentucky
I have only ever fished there one time and it was late November and raining and very cold. I threw a Chrome/Blue Rattle trap on the bluff walls not too far from the ramp and caught bass on just about every other cast for quite some time. It was a ball. None of them huge, but still fun!
Re: Lake Malone-Western Kentucky
I have only fished the lake one time. The wife and I went in march about three years ago and there were so many people there that I had to parallel park my truck and trailer. It is a very pretty lake. If I were to go back I would be there at first light so the parking would be better.
We saw a lot of deer and other wild life. The lake has very pretty surroundings. I took my camera and took some nice pictures. It is a lake that I will visit again.
And the lake has some nice fishing!

Just completed a search on the board for previous post about Lake Malone. For the most part, they are not encourging, with some calling it one of the most difficult lakes in Kentucky. Still, I'm not discourged and just may give it a try sometime this January. I would think jigs would be best this time of year......your thoughts? Also wondering if maybe the FNF might be worth a try for some of those LM, etc.......?
Good Fishing to All and Happy New Year,

Re: Lake Malone-Western Kentucky
I've seen crappie come out of that lake that make most of the bass i catch look tiny! Also a great bluegill lake. The locals down there are friendly, just ask around, you'll do well and have fun!
Re: Lake Malone-Western Kentucky
i have been there and had some descent fish,a local we talked to said that they have a regular tournament down there and if you can't catch 18lb or more you won't get a look even in the summer night tourneys.he said it is hard to just show up and get them as those guys fix brush and stuff on the walls.which it has plenty of.my experience has been to fish parallel more so than perpendicular casting even with jigs and worms.

Lake Malone is a hard lake to fish but it is in my opinion one of the best lakes in the state. i have caught a 7.99, 8.86, and a 9.25 in the last 4 years. i have caught too many 4-6lbers to think of. you just have to know how to fish the lake.
to sum lake malone up if you are going in the winter you are only fishing for 2-5 bites. summertime about the same. it is not a lake where you are just going to wack them. dont get me wrong it happens every once in a while but for the most part not gonna happen. if your going in the winter try a hair jig on the bluffs with a ledge on it and a jerkbait on tappering banks that is usually the best two patterns for me. spring go shallow as usual and summer have a big jig big crankbait and big worm and go deep.
if ya got any other questions just ask....
Re: Lake Malone-Western Kentucky
I go there for family trips. I am a bass fisherman and use Malone as a get away from the hassle of tournys. I fish with ultra-lite tackle and have a ball. Good bluegill and crappie. Bass are a plus, but I'm not targeting them. There are some good pictures at the resturants, most of the guys are in winters clothes..... Good luck and keep us posted..
