Dale During and After Cold Front- HELP
I have reservations at Dale Starting Saturday through Monday. A deep cold front appears to be on tap Friday and Saturday with the biggest dip on Saturday. Sunday and Monday look like a warm-up to normal temps.
My history fishing greenfish at Barkley/KYL is that just before and during the front fishing can be great but it can be terrible the several days after the front. Note this is more the mid-spring and summer experience not quite this early.
Should I expect poor fishing at Dale Sunday and Monday even if it warms???? Don't know if I should cancel and try again later or suffer in the cold Saturday??? Help from the experienced greatly appreciated.
Re: Dale During and After Cold Front- HELP
are you wanting to float n fly. are you good with a jig. if you are looking for the early spring bite, it is not there yet and the cold front will relegate you to fishing for smallies. if good with the fly and a jig (or silver buddy), the smallies are going to be there but if you are not proficient with these techniques in a winter pattern, i would reschedule for late march/early april.

I'm expecting to float and fly fish and I'm OK with a jig which is what I'd planned on fishing. I'm not so experienced with these techniques on a lake I rarely fish to believe I can catch them if they are in a negative mood. Smallmouth was the target fish for this trip.

You may want to log onto smalljaw.com and read the fishing reports. They have been catching them fairly well as of late.

thanks neat site!!! My question related to what impact, if any, the coming cold front would have on the smallmouth bite. I've seen a few comments that made me think that the bite might actually improve after a cold front. This has been far from my experience with largemouth in the spring which is why I made my post. thanks to all
Re: Dale During and After Cold Front- HELP
The fish are still being caught deep on main lake points and a very few on secondary points. The front shouldn't hurt the bite as much as it would in late March or April when the fished have moved in positon or are spawning.
Re: Dale During and After Cold Front- HELP
i concur with gunpilot, the "cold" weather is not going to bother them as much for the techniques you will be utilizing. if this crazy front would ever move on, i am planning to fish dale tomorrow and thurs. dale is just NOT nice with winds over 20mph (not that cland was any kinder at 40mph)
