Cannelton Dam Fisherman.. No more Sauger Fishing from Shore???
Hey Cannelton Dam Guys, anything to this rumor... picked up from "Another Discussion Board".
Quote from board: "I believe that Smithland dam is getting fitted for a hydroelectric plant along with Cannelton dam upriver . I have heard that bank fishing the Ky. side at Cannelton may soon be a thing of the past. Hopefully this will just be a vicious rumor."
Can anyone confirm or put this rumor to bed. Sure hope it's not true!!!!
Good Fishing to All,
Gary
Re: Cannelton Dam Fisherman.. No more Sauger Fishing from Shore???
I got checked by fish and game back in December, and he said it was going to be closed off in March. I talked to fish and game again at the O'boro boat show, and they confirmed as well. I did some research on the net and a company out of Ohio has three hydroelectric projects on the Ohio and Cannelton is one of them. From my last research, construction is set to start sometime in March. So I would bet that access will no longer be allowed. Type in "Cannelton hyrdroelectric project" in Yahoo and you will see the bad news. Looks like Newburgh is the only one left.
Re: Cannelton Dam Fisherman.. No more Sauger Fishing from Shore???
I guess this is why there have been workers there clearing land everytime I have been up there to fish this year?
This stinks if it ends up being true.

Does anyone know what the bounderies are going to be in regards to the rest of the river going toward the Indiana side. Surely they won't close off the entire area in front of the gates.

Well, I know this thread is old, but I thought I would post an update.
The plans are in motion for the construction, but they seem to be in slow motion. The land is somewhat cleared, and they have a sign up, but that is about it. As of now, you can still fish the KY side. I have been down there several times this winter, and I have yet to see any major construction going on down there. I just hope they find a way to continue to allow us to fish below the dam. If they don't, I will be forced to drive to Newburgh.
