Where to go Friday
Promised my 9yr old daughter I'd take her fishin good friday a month ago. I decided it would be between Herrington and Guist. Does anybody know which one would be better? I know they are probably both blowed out. I'm thinking Guist would be a bit more stable. Thanks to any help. First time poster by the way. Been lurking for some time.

Re: Where to go Friday
I have never been to Guist and it has been many years since I have been to Herrington, so take this with a grain of salt...
If you go to the Dix River side of Herrington, fishing the steep walls on the western side of the lake, you can catch bluegills all day long, literally.
Welcome to the site and good luck. Don't forget to bring a camera to record her expressions as she pulls in a fish as well as after getting it in the boat. You can get one of those "disposable" ones that look like the old school 35mm cameras for a couple of bucks.

Re: Where to go Friday
Make a call to Guist before you go I'd say it's so muddy it's unfishable and waaaaaay up.

Re: Where to go Friday
Thanks for the info! I plan on going out in the old boat and for the first time this year to figure out what doesn't work. I'm to fat to be walking around on the bank anyway. I kind of thought guist would be real muddy so we'll probably go to Herrington at Chimney Rock or Pandora. Unless the conditions are to dangerous. I'll call down to Herrington today at the dock and see what they think. Or if someone drives over the bridge there could you give me a report . Is the drfit real bad. Thanks

Re: Where to go Friday
Herrington Lake has been at flood stage for the past 3 weeks. There has been water released through the flood gates twice during this period. After yesterday's rainfall, the lake has risen 5 ft in the last 24 hrs. to level of 752 ft above sea level. That is nearly 20 ft above the summer pool elevation of 735. With flood stage being 748 that puts the lake level 4 ft on the flood gates so I would guess the gates will be raised and water released through the spillway again. Herrington's been on the yoyo for sure.

Re: Where to go Friday
Well we went to Herrington yesterday. Great day to be out but no luck. I was surprised that there wasn't more drift in the lake from the high water. My daughter had fun juust being out. Let her drive the old tug boat from Kamp Kennedy to Gwinn Island. The water color was good from Pandora to the dam on the main lake. Water temp was 39-45. Never saw any baitfish. Saw 1 turtle and 1 deer. But as I told my daughter, a bad day fishing with her beats any day at work!

Re: Where to go Friday
The flying J also doubles as a gas station/quick stop, when it is not booked on fight night.
