Re: Herrington White Bass
Hey Troutcrazy could you please keep me informed on the water conditions color and height. Supposed to go to Herrington this weekend. But now they are forecasting more rain and lots of it. Don't want to waste time and money if the water is not right. Thanks for your help

I had talked to a few guys yesturday that said they were pulling the lake pretty good, better than they had the past month or so. They said the upper stretches were looking really nice (color, and levels). Haven't heard much on the lower end. Hopefully this next batch of... much needed rain:rolleyes:, will not be too bad because This weekend is looking nice, for the first time in a while.
Re: Herrington White Bass
Thanks AJ for the update. It is hard to tell right now how much rain might be down that way on Thursday and Friday from the local stations in Louisville.

This morning the forecast was not good. 90% chance of rain Thursday, and 80% on Saturday with 2-4 inch totals. I would say even with them pulling water off through the dam they'll have to slow some of that simply because the KY river is swollen and 2-4 inches won't help any. I fished the KY River on Saturday and it was like a white water rapid!
Actually the water color was almost perfect on Monday with water temps in the mid 50's all over. With this rain the upper Dix will be rolling and stained and the lower part feeding into the lake will be dirty. Saturday is supposed to be rain free and fairly nice but I believe it take a few days for the color to return to fishable. I hate to ruin your plans for this weekend, but it's not looking good for you.
Re: Herrington White Bass
You can get the current Herrington Lake level by dialing, (859) 748-4685. The level this morning was 743.7. The summer pool level is 735 and winter pool is 725. The flood stage begins at 748. At this level the flood gates maybe opened to control the rising water. This past winter the lake level has been as high as 755. There are 10 flood gates that can raised in case of flooding. The release of the flood waters is coordinated with reccomendations from Army Corp of Engineers and the National Weather Service. The only other way water can be released from Herrington is through the 3 hydroelectric turbines which produce electricity.

Thanks guys for all the information, and I appreciate the phone number also. It doesn't look to good, if we do get all the rain that they are forecasting. I was planning on going to Gwinn Island, looks like it could be over the road.
