Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
It's almost that time again. I'll be down at Big Bear starting early Saturday morning. Anyone have any reports on the bass? Are the majority of them shallow now? Have any started spawning? What's it looking like for this weekend? It's finally close enough to the weekend to see the weather forecast, it's looking like a slight cold front coming through Friday night but nothing too major. Looks like it will go from highs in the low 80's to highs in the mid 60's overnight. Do you think that will be enough to push the fish out for a while or by that time will they be into the spawn too much to notice that front? Thanks in advance for the responses. Can't wait to get down there.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
Saturday is definitely gonna be the day. That will be the first day of the cold front and it will also be raining just like last weekend. I'd say fish soft plastics on any secondary points and lead-in banks. You should be able to fill the boat.
You might also want to fish the shallow flats pretty hard. With all the cloud cover those fish will be cruising.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
There are lots of Bass being caught on shallow wood throughout most of the lake. They have finally stabilized the lake so things are almost like they are suppose to be this time of year. Plastics and spinnerbaits are working with some being caught on buzzbaits early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Look to catch some almost all day long if its cloudy

We had a number of keepers today...no really big fish but a number of keepers..none of the keepers were marked up nor were the bucks we caught....look for the move shallow of a lot of fish within the week...it is coming.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
Would you say it's more of a lead in creek and first drop out kind of bite or are there fish to be had on the brush already? I look forward to your report Thursday or Friday, Dave. I check it every week.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
lead in creek, most of the brush is out of water....
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
Getting fish both on lead in creek banks and in the brush. Better fish for us are coming in the deeper water except for cloudy days or early in the morning and late in the evening.

have a friend fishing barkley right now and he says there are very few fish in the bays right now. he and his partner boated over 50 bass yesterday on lead in banks and secondary points. they had 9 keepers with the biggest being 4.11. they also said that most other keepers were around 15-17 inches. they caught most fish on spinnerbaits and crankbaits.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
Is there much of a topwater bite going on yet?
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
I have only been hit once on topwater so far. Then again, I have only been tossing them occassionally.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
You know, I've read about some of the smaller "pockets" off the main lake being good around this time of the year and around the spawn. Do a lot fish spawn in these smaller pockets right off the main lake or is it better to look in the backs of the bigger bays like sledd and bear and the bays in them like malcom? Maybe it's better to target these pockets a little earlier as the fish are moving up becaue they are closer to deep water, what do you think? Tonight is my last night of work and then I'm off to KY! I can feel it now, it's getting close.
Re: Dave or anyone else...KY Lake this weekend!
from my experience in the spring there, i tend to do great in the bigger bays. i have been going there about this same time for years now. the topwater bite will be there strong anytime. my buddy is there now and has had a few on a buzzbait, but nothing consistent yet. last year we caught 90% of our fish for the week on a buzzbait. then again, i love topwater also. go as far back in the creeks and bays u can. if there is 6 inches of water, through a buzz through it. this all depends if the fish have moved up yet.
