hook on jig broke
has anyone ever had a hook break on a jig while reeling in a fish? Happened today on Taylorsville had a 4 maybe a 5lb on and just lost her. Thought nothing about it, thought she just unhinged until I went to put a new trailer on. hook was broke at the bend. Brand New strike king jig. I think I will start checking the hook strength somehow. Any thoughts?

Re: hook on jig broke
Same thing happened to me at Barren this past weekend...I got my jig hung up in a bush and pulled it out after shaking it loose. I started to retie and when I looked at my jig it too was broken in the bend. But I don't remember what type of jig it was, I got them at BPS earlier this winter and tied my own hair and rubber skirt on the new Football jig head. Thanks goodness I didn't have a fish on like you did.....

Re: hook on jig broke
I quit using Strike king products about 15 years ago due to poor quality control and their products falling apart. I know I will catch it from the Strike King fans but it only has to happen to me a couple of times and that is it brother, never again. I don`t even look at their "new" line of baits. I just keep walkin. There are to many mfgs out there that have top of the line baits, you don`t have to settle for junk that is just as expensive.

Re: hook on jig broke
I have heard of that happening on few jig before. All we use is mustad ultrapoint hooks in a med. wire. I have had guys say they have bent them but no one has said anything about broken hooks. I do know that some of the cheaper hooks are not tempered right and become brittle, I do not know of anyway to check for weak hooks before you buy one.
