Planning on heading down to Nolin tomorrow and wet a line. The weather guy said that its gonna be windy. Any of you guys and gals have any tips on fishing in windy conditions? Best lures, structure, etc? How windy does it have to be before you abort your trip? will post results upon my return.

I hate fishing on real windy days so i usually wont go.If it was a tourny and i had to i would fish wind blown banks with junk on the surface-sticks-foam-trash-etc.If fun fishing ill just find high bank areas or coves that block the wind a little.Crankbaits on those wind blown banks.If the waves get to much ill roll most of the time.My 16 footer doesnt care for white caps or 2-3 footers much.
I hate real windy days however there are times when, ''The wind is your friend''. Wind blown banks that hold fish will enhance the strikes with spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and crankbaits in clear to reasonably clear water. If it's muddy or heavily stained it will hurt you. I tend to not throw spinnerbaits on still slick waters but will actually search out some chop to boost my confidence. I have know idea what Nolin looks like right now, but if you find some clear water tomorrow with some heavy chop from the wind, sling that spinnerbug and jerkbait and you just might get your arm broke.
Just get ready to work out your trolling motor foot. Sometimes if the wind is the right speed I will let it carry the boat down a bank, and just adjust the TM to position the boat better. I like spinnerbaits in the wind. Just up the weight slightly on your bottom bouncin rigs. A little wind can give you an advantage, too much can make you miserable. As others said the banks with wind blowing on them will usually produce a little better.
We had a great day on Ky lake, The wind made it hard to travel on the water. But the fish bit really good today. My Neighbor and i caught 33 today with 11 of those being keepers. We didnt have any huge fish but our best 5 weighed 19-11. we fished red eyed shad, bandit crankbaits and T-Rigged Plastics, on wind blown banks and flats, but with 25mph plus winds every bank was windy.
I love fishing in the wind just hate running on the main lake with high winds. It looked like there was 4-6ft swells on the lake today.
Be Careful and watch the water, it can get dangerous quick....
Cant help you here, but when I lived up north, where there was shallow water, and you could anchor of a windy point, that was always good fishing.Spinner baits worked fine, but the rattle trap was the killer. Over hwere you need 150 ft of anchor rope on some ponts, and on a lot of them you will lose your anchor. Dont give up on the rattle traps though, cause the fish are there and a lot shallower than they usually are. I know bass boats are not meant for anchor fishing, and tournys frown on it, but before these big reservoirs were built, anchored fishermen were catching fish, and those who know how still do.
There are alot of ways the wind can help fishing, and alot of people prefer it. I HATE IT. I fish out of an aluminum boat, with light tackle. Boat control is impossible, on windy days, I have to find a place to get out of the wind which limits my fishing.
