Rusty Hooks
I went to the Fish & Wildlife auction today here in Frankfort.
I bought a box of fishing tackle. Lots of good baits. There are some though that have some rust on the hooks but nothing real bad.
I was wondering what your thoughts were as to how I should approach this. Is there anything that I could soak the hooks in or should I replace all the ones that have rust on them.

Re: Rusty Hooks
If they have slight surface rust you could just buff it off, but if the rust has pitted the steel, I would replace the hooks with the same size.

Re: Rusty Hooks
replace them all. Never take a chance on losing the fish of a lifetime because of a $0.10 hook.

Re: Rusty Hooks
You can try soaking them in Coke cola. I had a little rust on my truck and took some coke and it came right off and hasnt come back. Its been a few years since this. But if there bad just replace them.

Re: Rusty Hooks
I might try the Coke on the ones that have limited and I do mean very limited on them but I've already begun to take take off the ones that were abvious.
Jigs will be on the ones I try to see if Coke brings it out. If not then I'll have to toss them.
I keep thinking of reeling in after fighting a monster just to see one the hooks broke off and him get away.
Thanks Guys!!

Re: Rusty Hooks
I wanted to go to the auction but couldn't make it this year. What else did you see worth noting?

Re: Rusty Hooks
there were about 100 guns, mainly rifles there were some G-Loomis rods but they were going for 150 to 170. I got two Bass Pro crankin sticks. probably 50 jigs, 20 crank baits, 20 jerk bait and 5 rattle traps for $120
there were some jon boats. I didn't see what they were going for though.
couple 150 hp motors. one johnson one evinrude. they went for under $1000

Re: Rusty Hooks
I would replace all of them also, but .10 cent hooks where do you find .10 cent hooks? At BPS the good ones cost more than a new bait. I took a file to some older spinnerbait hooks and that did a good job.
