Don't know hoe far you're willing to travel, but I have caught some decent crappie at Carnico(This side of Carlisle), from the bank with the grandkids, throwing popeyes/mealworms under bobbers. Deeper water to the left of the boat ramp works well. Good Luck!
Not really anything "close" ... but, if you just want to "catch Crappie" from the bank ... try Cedar Creek. They're probably already finished spawning, so you won't find them in 2-3ft of water, around sunken trees --- but, try jigs or minnows around any fallen trees or submerged wood that's in a little deeper water. They're going to be small, for the most part ... but, you can take 30/person (no size limit). And you'd be helping the lake (& the Crappie in it).
Closest "lake" to Lexington, where you "might" catch Crappie from shore .... Jacobson Park Lake. But, that's a crap shoot, at best.
