Barkley or Kentucky?
This is my first post, I have been watching for awhile and this site is very informative, and now I have a question.
We are going on our yearly week to Lake Barkley starting this Friday, this will be our 6th year. We have a really good campsite on the LBL side where we use backcountry camping at an old minors camp right on the lake. There are about 20-30 of us and it grows each year, and the camp site that we use can easily handle that many campers along with all the boats that we can pull right up on the mud bank. But this year we have a dilemma. We had a "scout" go check out the site, and he said that Barkley is very muddy, I don't know about yall but I hate fishing muddy waters, so we are thinking of moving to Kentucky this year. Does anybody know of a campsite on the LBL side of Kentucky that can handle that many campers and about 11 boats? We would like to stay away from a formal campsite and use our Backcountry camping permits and get somewhere that is more secluded. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or If you know how long it takes Barkley to clear up. Thanks in advace for your answers.

Re: Barkley or Kentucky?
For fishing fun, Ky would be your best bet. From what I saw the past 4 days there plus the rain that they are supposed to get this week, Barkley will be muddy for a few days. Ky Lake would be your best bet to fish. Sorry I don't camp so can't offer any camping solutions but for fishing Ky Lake would be better. Good Luck

Re: Barkley or Kentucky?
Buckbassking welcome to the site. I crossed Barkley last sunday in a car and you could track a coon across it. I am like elnut and do not camp however I thing there is camping around Turkey bay on the LBL. You could probably trailer your boat to either lake from there. You might check hilman ferry they have some tent camping.
I am sure someone will give you instructions that is more familiar with the camp ground areas however if you do not like muddy water you should look at KY Lake

Re: Barkley or Kentucky?
I didn't think barkley was too bad this past weekend. I won a tournament and weighed in a big bag of fish from mid-barkley on Sat. and did OK there on Sunday. This past week I have done great on both lakes. Barkley definitely holds a little more stain than Ky, but it clears out pretty quick, that is until the next batch of rain this week hits. I see some scattered back country campers on the lbl side of Ky. There are also some designated camping spots that are pretty nice and secluded - rarely ever do I see many if any campers on Sugar and Smith bay's rough camping sites. There is a decent ramp at both. But as of this week I haven't seen any campers there.
