cant rely on people
Don't you hate it when you plan a trip all week, get the boat ready, and all your gear straight. You set up a time to leave in the morning with your partner. You got everything straight did your research got your game plan and your back up plan. Then you wake up on game day and your partner doesn't show. With gas prices the way they are I just decided not to go and go back to sleep. I guess that's what I get for inviting someone that is not a serious fisher. (see if I invite him again)

He wouldn't be going with me anymore. I would be pissed.

Re: cant rely on people
Depends on his reason for not showing.............
* Oversleeping.........you get 1 CHANCE........NO More........
* Out partying the night before............forget it.........you waste my time.
* Car breaks down..........OK.........BUT get a new car :)
* Supermodel came over..........OK..........but hurry up and get the HELL over here.
* Death in the family...........Tough one...........DEPENDS on who it is :)
* All others..........AT your descretion........

Re: cant rely on people
I have been on both sides of this one. We always had a legit reason for being late and apologies were accepted. If it's a friend then let it go....get him back on something else.:) JK!

One other thing..........when you drive 60 miles to meet your partner, and forget your fishing rods, be THANKFUL he has extras..........Happened to me a couple years ago.........Actually, I think I took the rods to his house, but they never made it on the boat............THAT really sucked.......

Re: cant rely on people
I only fish by myself as I don't know many people down here but really the only time it gets lonely is putting in and taking out

Re: cant rely on people
I usually go solo. Sometimes it's nice to have a buddy in the boat, but mostly by myself. It's more relaxing and quiet. Son-in-law oversleeps so I bang on his house and wake him up. I just plan on picking him up 1/2 hour sooner than I usually would so after waking him up and waiting on him to get his stuff together we are still on time. I only give him a 10 minute window. If he aint up by then I'm going without him.

Re: cant rely on people
I usually go solo also. Like Dester, I only miss having someone along to help load and unload the boat. I get tired of hearing all the excuses people will give for not wanting to go or for cancelling at the last minute. Also, I don't have to listen to them complain or say that they should have stayed home because the fish aren't biting anyway.

I've done that TOO...............and on top of that, left the **** thing running.
Try finding someone at 4:0am to come open the freakin thing.........
I ended up calling my wife..........SHE had not let me forget about that one.
Just like not letting me forget about letting "waterboy" back the truck down. Well he was messing around with the TRUCK keys, and dropped them overboard. NO AMOUNT of SEARCHING found them. My wonderful wife drove 2 hours to bring me a spare.
Now, some of this was PARTLY her fault..........she took the spare truck key out of my boat, so I had NO SPARE.........
Waterboy was beaten to a pulp, and buried somewhere in the Glendale fish and recreation area :) :).........by my wife.

Re: cant rely on people
I'm another soloist. But up north had a buddy and we worked together, spent more time together than we did with our wives. But he's still working, I've been out to pasture for 15+ yrs. Met a guy who wanted a seat musky fishing, and he got it, the front one! Nice kid going to Uof L, and he knew the lake.When we fished lake michigan, sometimes I'd see a guy fishing off shore and asked if wanted to go out, it was really good if he knew how to run a boat while I was setting up the down riggers and planer boards.
