McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
By: Bill W. @ 9:00 AM - PDT
Unlike last month’s photo-op where the media let him get away with his make-believe Katrina record, Maya Rodriguez with the New Orleans CBS affiliate news brought a dose of reality to McCain’s town hall in Baton Rouge on Wednesday:
Rodriguez: Senator, my understanding is you have voted twice against the creation of commission to investigate the levee failures around New Orleans, and my question is: Why have you voted against that creation of that commission?
McCain: I’ve supported every investigation and ways of finding out what caused the tragedy. I’ve been here to New Orleans. I’ve met with people on the ground. I’ve met with the Governor. I’m not familiar with exactly what you said but I’ve been as active as anybody in efforts to restore the city. …
Despite his claims otherwise, the reporter was correct, and McCain’s record on Katrina is not at all what he would have you believe.
McCain Voted Twice Against Establishing A Commission To Study The Response To Hurricane Katrina. [ 9/14/2005, 2/2/2006]
McCain Opposed Granting Financial Relief To Those Affected By Hurricane Katrina. [9/15/2005]
McCain Voted Against Five Months of Medicaid For Hurricane Katrina Victims. [11/3/2005]
McCain Voted Against Emergency Funding Bill, Including $28 Billion for Hurricane Relief. [5/4/2006]
And as for McCain’s: “I’ve been here to New Orleans. I’ve met with people on the ground,” ThinkProgress notes that “until traveling there one month ago, McCain had “made just one public tour of New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina touched down in August 2005.””
The truth is, until Bobby Jindal won the Louisiana Governor’s race in Oct. and McCain began trying to remake his Katrina image out of pixie dust and media complacency, his gulf coast record hadn’t changed much since the day the hurricane made landfall.
Can you say....Mcliar?
Re: McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
Why so worried about the Katrina scandal of old.......If the stupid ones in charge at the time in New Orleans would have taken the Offer of Help from Washington in the beginning. Most if the troubles that followed would have been prevented.... Don't go blaming people who offered help, when it's the Jerk offs who were running the State Of LA., who are totally at fault......
Re: McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
We can't go blaming the state of LA for hurricanes now. LOL
Honestly a whole lot of agencies dropped the ball on this one, our federal government being the biggest. I find it odd that the canadian mounted police were there before goverment releif (whether it be man power, or supplies). This really could have been an opportunity for Bush to step up as a leader and bring people together. He failed miserably. In fact his lack of actions pushed the division of people further apart. I would expect no different from McCain. I once had respect for him, when his views were a little more realistic - now he just seems to mimic Bush in all aspects. If you want to ensure failure, model yourself after those that have failed - Hopefully McCains failure will be in November and not stretched out over the next 4 years.

You're doing a great job BROWNIE!
Re: McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
Everyone is quick to blame the federal government for Katrina, while giving the state and local governments a free pass. The federal government has some fault, but the governments in La are far more to blame. To top it off New Orleans re-elected Ray Nagan mayor for crying out loud. It's hard to help people who won't help themselves.
Mcliar? Creative. Did you stay up extra late last night thinking that one up or did they teach that to you at an Obama rally?

I'm with you 100%!!!!!
Why didn't they try and help themselves? What was that Mayors name who failed to react? Remember the one who blamed everyone but himself? Remember the one who had the opportunity to evacuated thousands of people with buses that he had at his disposal but decided to let them get trashed and let HIS people die? Was he the one who wanted the city to be "chocolate" again? What was his party affiliation?
No, he didn't say Louisiana is to blame for the Hurricanes!

Actually I like McFlipFlop much better.
McCain is too old and too easily angered to make a good President.
He is just another Bush and will lead this country into chaos. If we are not already approaching that now.
I read that Oil went back up again.
This country is going to wilt if oil continues to go up in price and becomes less available.
Re: McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
Yep I just purchased gas ($3.82 per gallon) and then minutes after I did that the price went to ($3.99 per).

--------------------------------------Just about a week or two ago it reached 3.999 here in Evansville, IN then it went back down this week to $3.869.
It usually goes down by Wednesday and then back up on Friday though Tue.
Something to think about when buying gasoline.
Oil prices in the middle east are set by the OPEC members. When they sell that oil it's sold at a certain price. Now those that buy that oil have to take possession of the oil and transport it from Saudi Arabia or the middle east back to the Good old USA to refine it. Then the oil goes to the refineries in Louisiana or TX and gets processed. Then it has to be shipped to the gas station.
If you think about this process you will see that it takes time to get the oil across the Ocean and distributed to your local gas stations.
Now why does the price of gasoline that was sold a month or two ago suddenly increase in price when the price of oil today goes up?
Something is not right. They are raising the price of gasoline that was made with oil purchased two or three months ago at a much lower price than the day they sell the gasoline to us.
There should be a two or three month lag in the price increase of the gasoline when the oil was purchased three months ago.
When the price of a barrel of crude oil jumps up in Jan then the price of the gasoline that was made with the crude oil should based on the cost of the oil purchased in Jan not on the price of Oil selling in April.
Re: McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
Federal AND local officials dropped the ball when Katrina hit. The locals were kind of busy trying to avoid drowning. I don't know what excuse the feds had, but frankly it doesn't matter at this point. I can't think of anybody whose record on the subject is something to brag about. If you want to make it into a campaign issue, I'd look at who is more likely to prevent a recurrence on their watch. On this, I would consider McCain's military experience to be a plus, but he's a fiscal conservative, and I'm not sure he'd be willing to spend what it would inevitably cost. Tax dollars wouldn't be a problem for a tax-and-spend liberal like Obama, but would he be able to run the show?
Questions, questions...
Re: McCain Fails to Come Clean on Katrina Record
Its history, but the sad fact is its quite able to repeat itself. New Orleans, a city that I liked to visit during our winters on the gulf, is a disaster waiting to happen over and over again. This was a social break down by stae and local and federal government. Poor leader ship really showed its face in that place. From no help at the time it was yrgently needed to all kind of bungling by state and federal programs. Its still a city that is in harms way, and I for one who loved its old caracter, say most of it should never be rebuilt, its still below sea level in some places, dependant on a river that is straing to make a new channel to the gulf, and all governments, are a nobile attempt, to fill a whole in the water with money[ just like a boat]

sorry, hole in the water.
