Bassmaster to the Troops Overseas
Does anyone know how to get my old bassmaster magazines to the troops? I remember a post about this a long time ago and I was cleaning today, well the wife was and she said I needed to get rid of them, I just hate to throw them away when someone else might want to look them over. Not a lot of them maybe 30 or so.

This subject came up some time ago. At that time, I called Fort Knox Public Affairs Office and was told that there is no way to send them to the miliary overseas. There just isn't any system for them to accept and distribute "un-designated care packages" to the military people. If you had a specific person that you could send them to, that would be ok but from was I was told before the military mail system will reject and return mail address to "ANY SOLDER" or similar titles.
Maybe someone on the board knows service members and could PM you with a name and address that could then distribute them for you.

You are right, they no longer accept packages that are not addressed to specific troops overseas. The main reason for this, is fear of a biological terrorist attack, like anthrax. When I was in Iraq, I got a whole bunch of hunting and fishing mags sent to me by realtree and family and friends. It really was nice to be able to read about something and relax a little. I also checked this board periodically, it was nice break to read all the fishing reports that you guys posted. If you want to send some overseas, you could probably try to get in touch with a Family Readiness group. Families of a unit's deployed members form groups to support their members. It would probably be easiest if you asked around and found someone who had a family member or friend who was deployed and send it to them.

This is great, while I was in IRAQ I got a bunch sent to me, loved it. Go by your local National Guard Armory, and ask if they know of a unit that is deployed, tell them what you want to do and they should help you out with a POC. I will try to find you a unit tomorrow that is deployed and a good phone number so you can get an address of a soldier to send them to. Hope this helps
