Mcneely at times can be a decent fishery. If you like fishing with crowds. I have personally never caught any lunker bass, but small fish are plentiful and easy to catch. Also the lake is loaded with good size bluegill and redear. Have not fished there this year, but did quite a bit last summer with the kids, and had no problem bringing in coolers full of panfish. The ramp is very steep, and I have seen several vehicles in the lake, so be careful. Hope this helps.
We had a question about McNeely several months back...the fishing is okay but it's up in the air on whether or not you should eat them. If you get back to the dam you'll lose the crowd as most of the people are bank fishermen. If we go without rain for any length of time it get real shallow in some places. Not the prettiest place to fish...
I live a mile away from Mcneely lake and I agree with the posters, but I did pick up a 5.5 pounder this Spring. Had a guy take a pic of the fish with my phone and I think the guy was a little boozed. Saw the same guy two weeks later and he was telling me the story of a guy that caught one 7 pounds. Just goes to show that fish tells grow be the week.
McNeely Lake is a Louisville Metro Parks Lake and they stock them with bass, bluegill and channel cats. Like most parks lakes it gets fished quite a bit from the bank. There are parks department lakes throughout the city and you will be within an hours drive to several bigger lakes such as Taylorsville and Rough River. That is a pretty calm end of town to live in.
