are you a fisherman or angler ?

I was ask by a co-worker that does not fish whats the defferents between fisherman and angler are they the same. at first i stated there the same but as i thought about it there not. you hear the word angler mostly in tournaments,bassfishin,a person that targets 1r2 species, only targets game fish, they take the sport that they love and make it a art & science.
to me a fisherman will fish for what is biting at a given time, uses live bait and lures, will use all methods rod&reel,trotlines,banklines,jugs,ext
and will catch bigger fish than a angler far the most part they target all.
my self I fish mosly rod&reel 50% of time i fish for Bass the other % im a die hard Big catman. ;)

Angler here. Bassaholic. Would rather fish for bass than to eat when I'm hungry. Any time and any place.

Tournament Angler, but I still manage to go crappie fishing 3 or 4 times a year for a break. I used to fish for what ever was bitting untill I fished my first tournament in Aug 2003, been die hard bass fisherman ever since.

I'm a bass angler, but in the spring when those big shellcrackers and gills go on the bed I'm a fisherman to.

There are other fish besides bass in the water??? hmm.

Fisherman for sure. Been fishing like most people on here since I could hold a rod and reel. I'll fish for any species that is out there. Sure I fish bass tournaments but have fished Shad tournies (St. Johns River in Florida) as well. Doesn't matter to me. Salt or Fresh, Lake, Stream, Creek or Pond bring it on.:)

Accccording to the dictionary ---- An angler is One who fishes with rod, hook and line. A fisherman is One who fishes as an occupation or for sport.

Well, let me see, from march - Oct. I am an angler. I fish mostly & primarily for bass. In tournaments, with the kids, with the kids in tournaments. From Nov. - Feb. I am a fisherman, I like to catch those saugers down at the dam. So I guess I am about 60% angler & 40% fisherman.

well, then, according to the dictionary im both haha, i use a rod, reel, line, hook, and fish for sport......i dont really care what i catch, as long as its a fish, but, i would rather catch bass

i'm a darn good fisherman,just don't catch much..

LOL! You got that right! I'm ready!:) Been known to forget about the bass tournament and fish for the schooling whites or hybrids while convincing myself there is a big largemouth waaaay under the school.:D
