sauger this year??
i believe that the sauger fishing might be slower than the years in the past. the rain levels this year have been fairly low up north and here as well or maybe we just need a week or so of cold weather to turn them on like it was last year. we were catching limits daily this time last year. usually the guages and the flow are a little higher and maybe thats why its been slow. whats every one elses opinion??

Re: sauger this year??
Hopefully the rain we are getting and with whats in the forcast, the bite will pick up. From what I have read on the board, sauger fishing on the Ohio has been verrrrrrrry slowwwwww to date.
Thinking of giving them a try below Newburgh dam next week.
Good fishing to all.

Re: sauger this year??
Went to Cannelton Fri. and it was awful. The only one I had on got off at the boat. We need more current and colder water. One boat said he had eight fair ones and I didn't see anyone else catch very many. I hope the river doesn't get really high this winter and sauger fishing gets good.

Re: sauger this year??
Fished around the interpretive center below McAlpine Friday and today...zilch, nadda, nothing! Caught a few whites but not the first sauger! Granted Ive this was the first time Ive ever fished it from a boat, but Ive NEVER seen it this bad. Water was 54F.
And I want to give a big thanks to riverrat and mhall for taking their time to show me around down there Friday!

Went to Meldahl Dam. I went fishing Sat down on the river. Yes I did , can you believe that?
Got to the ramp and looked out on the river, 2-3' footers whitecaps, wind blowing
about 15-20 mph, 42 degrees, raining, UGH!
However we did manage 15 sauger and 1 nice walleye. But, only 5 were keepers.
Caught them all jigging spoons in 20' of water. Fished from 2:30- 5:30 pm. Got cold and wet!

I fished my normal shallow spots with lots of current Sunday but on my way out I flipped on the bottom machine and noticed alot of bait and fish in the deeper 30-40ft holes. I would have tried jigging there if my hand hadnt gone numb.
