Meldahl Dam
I have been wanting to go fish for sauger below the dam. It has been at least 15 years since I have been there. Best I can remember we would use jig heads tipped with minnows. Just looking for input on how the fishing is and when would be the best time to go would be now or jan.-feb. and what tactics/baits seem to have good success. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Meldahl Dam
The river is up right now. By the weekend it should be better. Use 1/4 oz jigheads chartreuse curly tails tipped with or without a minnow, keep near the bottom. Bring alot with you. Lots of old line and rocks. You will lose a few. Fishing over the last month has been fair to good. I have heard mixed reports. I have been 5 times in the last 2 months fishing from a boat and the most we have caught was around 15, using jiggin spoons and silver buddies and jigs. With the current now, hopefully fishing will pick up. Water temps are in the low 40's, and muddy. Anytime between now and March, fishing is usually good. If you don't do any good right below the dam, try the sand bar about a 1/4 mile below on the Ky side.
