Re: what do you thank ?
first its not cheating, its called doing your homework and putting your time in. alot of people put out cover all winter just for next years tournaments. i personally have not had much luck with rock piles, because i think it takes a big rock pile to hold fish.(the size of a truck). i perfer wood cover with rocks to hold them down.
if i were to build a rock pile. i would put it on top edge of the drop with wood sticking out over the drop so the fish would have something to get under..... just my 2 cents

one more note: location,location,location
you can build or put out the prettiest cover that you've ever saw,but if its not in the right spot its no good. that goes back to doing your homework.

Re: what do you thank ?
i have always heard too that if you put in christmas trees for cover that it takes a few years for the fish to come to them because of where the tree starts decaying it releases ammonia out into the water and reduces the oxygen content in that area....

Re: what do you thank ?
Before you go through all that trouble you might just want to take a day and drive around the lake while it is at winter pool looking at what is already there with a map, camera,or even better a gps. Take Nolin for example. There are some great man made brush piles and the like all over that lake. I have filled up my map over the last few years with all the stuff that I have come across while fishing it at winter pool. Don't forget that most lakes are lowered by 25 feet or more by the Corp, that is allot of new exposed shoreline to scout out. Save the back and by a Kodak!!!

Re: what do you thank ?
Do you have to check with anyone before you go putting artificial structure in a lake or can anyone just go do that at will?

Re: what do you thank ?
artificial stucture is illegal....if you get caught by the game wardens it will be a fine to the best of my knowledge....however having some type of cover that only you and maybe your partner know about can pay huge dividends in tournaments....and don't just make one or two brush piles....make several because a lot of them won't hold fish...but when you key in on the ones that do it can be a lot of fun

Re: what do you thank ?
From my understanding you are to contact the core or the dfw before you put out your cover and let them know when and where you are putting it out. If you dont want to do that I think you can give me a call and tell me where your putting it out and I will OK it.;) I think that you would be better served using wood instead of rock. ................Jarrod
