What makes the sludge, I mean after they burn the coal why does it have water in it?

I would guess that it got rained on. If they leave it out in the weather one might expect for this to happen after a bunch of rain. I'm not saying they should keep it in a building but it could have been covered up with plastic. I wonder what they do with this stuff long term. Why is there such a large amount of this stuff on the property behind a "dam"? The fishing there and all up and down that part of the Clinch has got to be affected.
Any more word on this spill, fishkill, etc and its affect on Watts Bar Lake and its fishing for this year? Planning a crappie/bass trip in April.
Thanks,
Bassky

They mix it with water so they can pump it to impoundments. Better than having toxic dust flying around everyday. Except when the dam breaks.
New River, you WV? Former Parkersburg here.
Just saw on TV . they netted fish in the area of the sludge and a lot of the fish had the the sludge in there Gills .. that's not good. Most likely will affect the fishing on WAtts Bar.. YANK
Hope it doesn't effect watts bar that much it is one of the few places left with quality fishing around.
