BFL vs. Local Tourneys

Is it worth fishing the BFL's vs. let say Renegade? BFL entry fee is $200 and Renegade is $125.00 which you split with your partner =$62.50. Top prize in BFL averages 3k-4K and it helps to have a Ranger Boat (another 30K - 50K). Top prize in Renegade is 2K and pays pretty well all the way to 10th place. I understand that most of you would love to make the BFL All American and that's probably why you fish it but I think you get the most bang for your buck in Renegade. I would like to fish more BFL's but can't justify spending the extra dollars. Not downing anyone for there choice in circuits I was just curious as to what everyone thought.

If you are wanting to try to make it to the next level of tournament fishing I would fish the BFL if you are just look for good competition I would fish Renegade.

Solo tourneys take all the fun out of it. Team tourneys are much more fun. Having a complete stranger in the back of your boat, bogarding all your spots ***** ass. If it weren't for 100 joe blow wanna be pros, the BFL wouldn't exist. You can go to these things and look around and maybe 10% of the competition needs to be there, the rest are usually just chasing a pipe dream. Why not just grab a bud, head to the lake and meet some more buds, its much more fun to rib your amigo about laying a beat down on him than ribbing some joe blow wannabe pro... Been there, done that, no fun.

My thoughts exactly. I think the BFL has some good things to offer, but for the most part Buzzking is dead on. I know, down here, there are some quality BFL'ers, and probably a handfull of those that should consider the next level. But I have also noticed too many attitudes and ego's that won't fit in a 21 foot boat. Buddy tournaments are much more fun - just as competitive, and you pick your partner. I also prefer smaller club tournments to a BFL.

I think you both are wrong,last year was my first time in BFLs and i had one of the funnest fishing seasons ive ever had.theres lots to learn plus big checks to win,and heck you even have a chance at winnin $1million if you make it there.There are alot of great guys and i havent met not one yet that was stuck up and mean.Id say fish the BFLs

I think zx nailed it. If you are looking to try and move up I would say definitely BFL's but if you are just out to make friends, maybe win a little money and have a good time, then a buddy circuit or some smaller tour would be right for you. That bottom line is to have fun.

Fish a few more berea, you obviously haven't had the draw from hell yet :D

There are a lot of great people that fish the BFL's - more good than bad. But there is nothing like a local guy with a chip on his shoulder that thinks he should be pro, and thinks he owns half the lake - there are a good chunk of those in larger, more competitive BFL divisions. Stay with it a little longer and you will meet a crew of these.

I think BFL's can be good to get your feet wet, but not really a step to the next level. Doing your homework, practicing your butt off, finding supportive sponsors, and sacraficing almost all other aspects of a "normal" life are what get you to the next level. If you are dead set on getting to the next level, I would consider the Stren series. Local BFL's regardless of where you go, will be dominated by a local that knows that water better than any other. The same people in most BFL's, especially those here, will make up the top 20 on 90% of the tournaments on that body of water. Most pro's says it is hard to be competitive with the locals on the BFL.

Got to be careful fishing those strens though, the locals have been known to show up and try to run people off their spots and take the arse beating of a life for it.....just ask Sam L.

no i havent had the draw from hell yet and hopefully i wont...im qualified to fish stren series this year and most likely will a couple of them...and bfls ARE the next step to becoming a pro,you dont just start fishing on the tour side for no reason...if you look at almost every pros history in fishing youll find that they have fished the bfls and every one of them encourage the young wanna be pros to start out in them

I second that notion, anxiously awaiting season 2 to start.
