barkley donaldson creek crappie help???????
I'm headed down to stay at donaldson creek on lake barkley sometime in mid-late april to do some crappie fishing for the first time. I fished johnathon creek last year at that time and did farely well fishing the stake beds considering the weather we had. I am gonna fish johnathon again but I want to fish donaldson creek since i am gonna be staying there. I was wondering if there are stakebeds there or alot of stickups or anything like that i need to be looking for. I was also wondering if donaldson is known as a good place for crappie or if i might be wasting my time. thanks ahead of time for any info!!!!!!

Head down to blood river on ky lake, loaded with crappie and stake beds. The only thing is that time of year their are soooo many crappie guys fishing. Good luck pal
Re: barkley donaldson creek crappie help???????
I have fished Donaldson for bass. Most the crappie fishermen I have seen fish the channel when it makes a transition from the northern side of the creek to the southern side. Also, the channel bank on the southern side of the cove has some brush down deep on it.
Good Luck
Re: barkley donaldson creek crappie help???????
If the crappie are still up spawning (mid-to-late April the party might be over) then Donaldson has some killer bush flats up in the head of the creek. There is a defined channel through acres of bushes with 10+ feet in places and plenty of sub-channels to boot. I am not a frequent crappie fisherman but have caught slabs in those bushes that time of year on a large tandem bass spinner. If the egg and milt party is over then pull back and fish the channels mid-bay...
