Cumberland FnF Report - 01/17/09
Brrr!
Launched at a bit after 8am with Fishin is Life. Air Temp was about 12, water temp was about 42. Wind was up to about 16 mpg by the afternoon.
Caught 3 Smallmouth - all in the 18 in. range.
Leader length varied from 9-12 ft.
Despite advice to the contrary, one of them came off a windblown point/transition area that had the waves just rolling in from across the lake. Fly had to be bouncing up and down about 2 ft.

Wow! up and down 2' or so huh? That's a pretty good chop. I know here in Louisville it has been windy as heck all day. I was hopin' someone would report how the FnF went today and if the conditions were windy. It's interesting to me that you still caught fish on the fly under those conditions, especially compared to everything I've read about it. Is the fly the only thing that all you all threw today?
Nice report by the way, thanks!

The Fly was all we threw all day. The smallmouth all came in the last hour or so (around 1:30-2:30) when the wind was its strongest.
Forgot to mention that we only saw 2 other boats all day (and might have been the same boat) and we were the only trailer in the lot at Halcomb's landing.
Nice to have the water all to ourselves.

Thanks for the FnF report! One of the reasons I love fishing this time of year, is the solitude on the water. Since my first fish ever on the FnF a few weeks ago, I've been stocking up on all my FnF gear; lots more duck feather flies, 8 braid on the spool and lots of comp time at work so I can get down to c'land soon during the week.
