What Spinning Rod Should I Get?
Im looking into buying a new spinning rod and I have $250 budget. I mostly use casting tackle, but I wanna get into some lighter techniques. Probably be using it mostly for light jigs, shaky heads, and curly tail grubs. Right now Im leaning towards a shimano cumara but just looking for some opinions and other rod ideas. Thanks guys
Re: What Spinning Rod Should I Get?
i like the st croix avids or the premier either one... i love my loomis's too but they might be over budgets... but i would get a 6'6 to 7'0 medium action with a fast or extra fast tip..... try a okuma reel too they are easy on the wallet and just as good as the more expensive ones..
st croix premier $100
Stcroix avid $180
okuma reel 50 to 80 dollars..
there is a slight sensitivity difference in the 2 rods but the premier only has a 3 year warranty adn the avid has a lifetime and its a better investment for me to get a lifetime warranty.... i have never fished with a cumara adn i have heard good and bad in those rods just like u hear about any rod....
Re: What Spinning Rod Should I Get?
Cumara Cumara Cumara. I love these rods and are completely sold on them. It is extremely sensitive and light (you can throw it all day). I just bought a new loomis shaky head rod and now I wish I had added another cumara to the collection. Heck, I'll make you a good deal on the loomis only used once so I can get another cumara.
Re: What Spinning Rod Should I Get?
I like Cumara's and their over the counter replacement warranty is one of the main reasons I own one. If you get a Cumara I recommend getting some Rod Wrap or TommyTape to cover the reel seat section, it gets cold. I have the 7'6" med. I thought it might be too long at first, but now I like having the extra length.

Re: What Spinning Rod Should I Get?
Pretty much you can get into a Gloomis (not IMX or GLX) in your price range. The bronzeback series is very good. Also you can get into The St.Croix Avid or Legend tournament series in that price range. Shimano Crucial or Cumara. All of these listed have lifetime warranty and are very solid in performance.
Im more of the spinning type myslef. And happen to have a rod for each of the techniques you mentioned. I started shakeyhead fishing with a 6'6"ML Avid and that is now a topwater rod, I use a 6'10" medium for shakey heads. Also use a 7' ML for jigs. I like a short rod for my Grubs, so i use a 6'3" ml. Hope that helps.
Listed on the Community tacklebox i have a very lightly used 6'6" Medium StCroix Avid for sale, if interested.

Re: What Spinning Rod Should I Get?
E21 Carrot Stix, they are selling 2008 models - that were selling for $149 as low as $119. I like the feel of the cumara but I didn't like the first eye from the reel it was too big for me, also the carrot sticks have an over the counter lifetime warranty, check into this becasue some have shipping fee's to replace the rods. The sensitivity is awesome and I love the design of the eyes, they aren't like regular inserts they wrap around the eye. They also were best in class a year or two ago.
