Laurel river lake!! WOW!!!!
Hey guys, I went to Laurel Lake saturday, my first trip there and I just want to say WOW!! That truly is a bueatiful lake! Clear water bueatiful scenery nice fish and the few people that I talked to from that area were exceptionaly nice! I put in at holly bay and went up into craigs creek and indian then down by the dam and a little piece up the main lake. I was fishing the FLY and only had 1 smallie bout 15 in. but it was COLD and the eyes on my rod kept freezing up. The temp was bout 35 and the water was about 40.5 degrees but the wind was CCCCOLD!! This is not much of a reprot , more of a comment and opinion. At one point I actually stoped fishing and took out my camera and took pictures of the cliffs and those HUGE bolders through out the lake! Maybe thats crazy and a waste of fishing time to some but as much as i love to fish i also enjoy the other bueaties that the good Lord has given us to enjoy. To me thats part of the fishing experience as well. Well I just wanted to share that with you and I hope you have a stroy to share as well, so lets here them!!!

I took a friend on his first trip wading Elkhorn last summer and I turn around and he's laying down on his back. I figured he'd fallen and hurt himself, so I rush over.
Turns out he's laid down to get a better perspective at a high bluff overlooking the creek. He starts talking about how beautiful it is. I realize it had been years since I'd appreciated what he thought was so amazing.
We do take it for granted...

Nice report, and I don't think it's silly at all, that's part of the experience for me as well.
Re: Laurel river lake!! WOW!!!!
Thanks for the report. Just don't ask me to watch the sunset with you and we'll be good.
lol...it is amazing...the stuff we get to see while fishing.

crappie chaser you are absolutely right laurel lake is the most scenic lake i have ever put a boat in & i have fished every lake in ky & a lot of tenn , alabama , florida lakes, i have fished it since it was impounded in 1973 & live in corbin i no longer fish anywhere but laurel the fishing is great for smallmouth bass, we weighed in 5 sm in a midwest tour. three years ago that weighted 25.54 lbs my 5 best just fun fishing in one day was 27.13 lbs last spring. its a small lake that cannot stand fish being taken out so everybody please practice c&r of sm & we will continue to have a great sm fishery for years to come & laurel is a jewel of a lake that deserves to be treated as one when we are on it. john

The older I get the more I appreciate the times on the water with friends and family. Seeing the beautiful lakes and Creeks Ky has to offer is part of the whole trip. Catching fish is nice but there is so much more to it for sure.
Re: Laurel river lake!! WOW!!!!
People ask why do you like to fish, I tell them the sun coming up, and the fog on the lake, maybe a deer or turkey on the shoreline, sometimes by myself the most peaceful feeling ,a person can get used to. It also makes up for the excuse of coming home empty handed.,
