Re: I just can't believe it
He is just one of many facing this exact same issue w/ Plapps. They took trade-in on boats and didnt pay off the liens on them. They also sold boats on consignment and didn't pay the seller. There is a huge stink about all this. This is at least the 6th person I have heard of that this happened to from this site and others. FYI the Plapps sellout is on the 18th of this month at 11AM.
Re: I just can't believe it
Well your friend is in for a long battle, because there is a long line of people they screwed. Unfortunately, the bigger entities (banks) will get first payment on whatever they can get for the remaining properties of the business. The individuals will most likely be dealt with after all the dust settles from that. Problem being, you simply can't get blood out of a turnip. I would love to say more, but will refrain.

That is pure and simple fraud...........
Later,

Re: I just can't believe it
Prison won't get these people paid back is the sad part.
Re: I just can't believe it
My father-in-law bought a 20X from Plapps in early 2008. They gave him the runaround too. They even had trouble producing THE TITLE TO THE BOAT! Once he threatened them with hiring an attorney, they got the title promptly. They are since out of business, and I am still hearing this sort of thing from their customers. Karma.
Re: I just can't believe it
I really feel for those people that are getting hit with that. Most people I know with a newer boat, got in one they could barely afford, much less have another payment on top of that. I can't get my head around someone doing business like that.
Re: I just can't believe it
If what I have heard from a former employee is correct there will be a couple that will be calling a 6x9 room with bars on the front HOME. I reccommended my buddy to go there 2 years ago based on the reputation and loaner boat program and have regretted ever mentioning their name since. He got the run around then and now has to find someone to service his boat as well and since he did not buy it from the soon to be new service dealer, he will be put at the back of the line everytime.
Re: I just can't believe it
I bought lures from him, I went to his shows and he would sell reels buy one get one free, half price on baits etc. etc. My feelings are that every time I was in that place it was totally unorginized to many people driving around in company vechicles, to much money spent on his new building I guess he got in over his head.
Re: I just can't believe it
A couple of years ago I drove all the way to Plapps to have two Motorguide trolling motors worked on. No way was I going to the place on Poplar Level road again.
They couldn't repair the motors (due to my price constraints.) My fishing buddy said he'd ride with me when I went back to retrieve the motors.
He bought a couple of rod n reel combos at a good price. I think they were pretty fat and happy at that time.
But someone needs to do some jail time from what I've read about them lately.

I take it that they are going to auction off the remainder of inventory. Do you know how to get a list of what they have?

Bob
I was there right before they closed when everything was 50 percent off. They had alot of plastics, they still had a lot of crank baits I think alot of the poplar colors where gone. There was a sweet trition bass boat still sitting in front with a merc 150 and I looked in the bins and all of the manuels where still there, the boat had Texas call letters on it. They had another bass boat I cannot recall the brand. They had alot of spinners also but they where 1/2 oz and up. They had some jigs.
