Just wondering whats the biggest smallmouth you could expect to catch out of elkhorn. I have caught a couple better than 3 pounds and feel that expecting bigger is not realistic. Correct me if im wrong in my thinking.

I grew up fishing Elkhorn, and have waded just about every wadable inch of it. However, I haven't fished it in years, and I'm sure new size limits etc. have changed it somewhat. But, twenty odd years ago when I fished it so much, about 3 pounds was about the best I did on smallmouth too. Caught a few 5 + largemouths out of the still sections. Although they weren't huge, I used to have lots of 25+ smallmouth days. Great piece of water and lots of great memories.
2 weeks ago my wife and i adopted 2 dachshaunds from the georgetown resuce we live in bellevue ky. by the ohio river, and the stadiums. I remember crossing a bridge over the creek and looking down and thinking to myself it looked like a good spot. Can you launch a small boat there, and if so where is the ramp by the bridge im talking about.
3lbs is about the best you'll do there. I've heard people say they've caught em up to 6, but I've never seen one that big out of there. Tons of 12" fish in there.
I've caught a couple 3lbs in it. I've also had a couple break my line that were Hogs! I think there are some 4lbs in there easy.
Fish Hard!
Hispanic population and droughts have severely reduced the #'s bigger fish...... We need a good steady flow this yrs.

When I lived in Georgetown, I would see a ton of fish kept out of there - would make you sad. I did catch a couple that went close to three, probably not quite 3. I put in alot of hours on that creek too from georgetown to frankfort.

i think i know the bridge you a talking about. if it was on road 25 just outside of town,it does have a ramp. there is also a ramp across from southern states on 460 close to town. pretty good fishing at either ramp

upacrick..........is there more than one elkhorn creek in ky because the one i fish has more than carp and red-eye. i dont do any drinking so im sure of what i have caught out of it. i do boat the lakes and i am able to catch "some real fish" from them as well. mine was a simple question of expected top weight of smallmouth from elkhorn.........just wanted a simple answer.
i have had a few smallmouth 4+ lbs but that has been a couple years ago. had quite a few good ones out of lower Stoner also.
