In March would you fish Barkley or KY?
Also what are the shad doing now at these lakes, or where should I search for shad concentrations?
Thanks,
Jason

I would fish kentucky lake, just because i like it better myself. The shad are going to be normally where the warmest water is normally. Depending on water temps, weather/front conditions. If its been sunny and your having a S to SW wind coming in, fish the back of creeks. If its post frontal or colder pull out a bit.
Do any of you that fish KY try to find some crayfish in the spring while fishing to see what color they are?
I kind of figure that staging is more important than food to the bass before the spawn, but the combination of food and a good staging area would seem to produce some quality fish.
I haven't seen them in the spring but I used to camp there late summer / fall with my kids and the water would be down to where they would splash around turning over rocks and finding craws. At that time of the year they were always a medium to dark green much like watermelon colored lures...

Book a trip or talk with Dave Stewart.
There can be several things working at that time. I like Lipless and T-rigged creature baits.
Barkley better protected from the winds this time of year, definately something to consider. Lipless cranks and rouges.

For pre-spawn - I like Kentucky's water clarity a little better for jerkbaits and stuff. However, I did much better on Barkley last year toward the end of march through may.
