Pond fishing this weekend???
So I finally get a chance to go out to my favorite farm pond this Saturday... The last time I was there is was the end of the Dec. and caught 3 over 4lbs on a spinnerbait... With these warmer temps coming in tonight what do you guys think will catch the monsters???? Mainly just looking for your guys opinions on early spring farm pond fishing..... Thanks in advance....
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
If it's windy throw a blue and chrome 1/2 oz rattletrap, crank just fast enough to keep it off the bottom or out of the moss and you will get your arm broke. Spinnerbaits especially if the water is off colored and again with the wind. If it's super calm and a little clearer I would slow down and throw a bitsy bug jig with a real pork trailer #11. If none of these work just go home cause they have lock jaw.
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
This time of year I like to work the shallow end with a jig. Water warmer there, obviously.

Opinion:D
Dont matter as long as you take a kid:)
My pond gear includes (true made in the USA) popeye jigs and waxworms.
Smaller ponds will be warming in the shallows, and Mr Gills will be looking for an early season snack. AAAHHH, come on Spring.
Good luck.
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
Well pond fishing is fun and easy, because you already now where their at(depending on the size of the pond) I'd keep throwing that spinnerbait.
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
boys let me tell you, I was out one or two years ago to a big pond I fish and a 13 year old little girl was with me. I was hooking up or geting a hit every throw with an old plastic worm. I would hook up and give her the rod, and she pulled in about 25. I hooked up and I knew it was a good one. Then gave her the rod, she got him in and it was 22 1/2" long. Don't know what the weight would have been, but it was bigger then anything I ever had a hole of. She's hooked, Got me a fishing buddy, and that's the best fish i'll ever catch.

Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
That's a big part of my mid-late spring goals this year, to get my little cuz hooked. I got to take him a few times at the end of last summer and we had a blast. Gramps' old farm pond is full of bluegills, those little green sunfish that fight like smallmouth, channels, and some fair largemouths, which we will try to put the smack down on this summer. Its more important to me that he have a male rolemodel now than ever with his pops on contract overseas. With only a bunch of ladies in the house he is getting a little sissified for Kentucky, unacceptable.
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
Well I'm hoping that the fish are still in the vicinity they were in Dec., but it's a big pond 13 acres.... Plan on starting off with the rattle trap and the spinnerbait since we are going to have some good wind.. Hopefully it won't blow 25mph like they are predicting..... And maybe the ol' faithful beetle spin will catch a couple of crappies... Mainly bass fishing though with some good friends no kids on this trip.... But they are usually first on fishin buddy list for sure... Thanks for advice.....
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
throw the spinnerbait and rattle trap like you said, id also throw some jigs, shaly heads, and maybe a jerkbait,
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
Is 13 acres a pond or a lake? what is the requirements? where the line from big pond to lake?
Re: Pond fishing this weekend???
I have been wondering that same question as long as I have been fishing there.... I consider it to be a small lake, it has dam and a spillway if that matters....
