ohio river sauger fishing help?????????
i was watching kentucky afield the other day and they were catching sauger on the ohio close to louisville but i'm not sure exactly where they were at or what ramp to put in at to get there the easiest. there was a railroad bridge with a train going across it close to where they were fishing and alot of people wading out in the water fishing. i'm wanting to go out there and try it but i don't know my way around the river and i know how dangerous it can be out there. any info and help will be appreciated.
Re: ohio river sauger fishing help?????????
It was at the Falls of the Ohio park in Indiana...I believe that video was from last year Jan/Feb 2008. Extremely dangerous to get there in a boat if you've never been there, I wouldn't recommend going alone for your lower unit's safety. It is an easy place to access from the Indiana bank though wading.

There are some great guys on here to help you with that. The first thing to know is the dam Number. The McAlpine Dam # is 502-775-5056 it will let you know whats going on down there. You will want to know where the duck pond is. The hydro is a good place to fish. Right now the river is about the right depth but water temp has not been the best and it has been very muddy. If you think that you must go down there with out a little help be ready to repair a prop or your boat hull. Then if your real lucky you be the next person to make it the news!!!! Now for what is great you might be sauger fishing and hook a big blue cat. Or the stripper start hopping. You can ask on here but I havn't heard anybody saying anything about catching any with any real luck.

Re: ohio river sauger fishing help?????????
Water stability is a big key for this area also. The yoyo affect of going up or down quickly will kill a fishing trip real quick. The water has to go up and stay up or go down and stay down for a period for the fish to congrigate (spell). I'm down there every week and would be happy to show you around sometime. PM me if your interested....Hey Mike (boatbum) where you been??? Talk to Bigcat lately?? Chuck

Chuck, what length of time are we talking about here? A couple days, a week, two weeks? How long does the water have to be stable before the fish move back in?

Jason, I believe this is where water temps come into play. As you know different spieces will react to different water temp.during there spawning cycles. Sauger, Walleye, somewhat cold water, bass, alittle warmer, catfish, bluegill, even warmer water and so on. When the water stays at one level for a period of time it gives the fish time to react and go threw there motions verses the water going up and down constantly changing Temps., clairity and displacing there beding areas on a river system. Man when are you going to get back down there with us?? We can talk about this further over a couple cold ones...Fish that is lol...Got to go cook, give me a call some time and you, me, and Mark can hook up... Chuck

Re: ohio river sauger fishing help?????????
Chuck, I love fishing but I hate the cold too! As soon as it warms up, I hope to be on the water more! In the next couple of weeks we are going to de-winterize the boat and keep our fingers crossed that we can get it running decently this year!
Im itching to feel a tug at the end of my line and my stomach is rumbling for some saugar in the frying pan or hybrid on the grill!!
