I'm not trying to be negative, just shooting you straight about Cedar Creek...
Fishing CC in late March can be good! Fishing CC in late March on the weekend can also be really frustrating due to crowds and extreme fishing pressure. My buddy went to CC this past Saturday and said the parking lot was 100% full. The lake is not very big which makes it maddening. That lake has produce some great size and numbers in late March. The last couple of years just have not been that great. I think the bass in CC see baits zipping by their heads every other second from March - November.
The silver lining is that there are still some big bass in the lake. If you fish it for 3 days you should catch some good ones (spinerbaits, jerkbaits and jigs should be good choices). As for crappie, I hear they are plentiful but really small.
Good luck!
Thanks I will try to catch some crappie and redear while I am there. I would rather go to Ky or Barkley but I am going with a group and they decided the lake choice. I fished Cedar about 2 years ago and did well but I think that after 3 days it may just be a little small.
I agree with the others about the boat traffic there, on weekends its too crowded. If you dont get there before 8 am you wont be able to park. And once on the water theres guys that run it wide open, never understod that because you can get just about anywhere on the lake in just a few minutes. Also I was under the impression that there was a 150 HP restriction, but I've see some over that? However there are alot of black crappie there in the 6-8 inch range that can keep you busy for a while. They dropped the minimum size and the creel is 30 now. I caught alot of em last year and probably had only a few 9-10 inches. Hadnt had much luck with jigs but minnows worked pretty good. As for the bass, I didnt do too well, alot of 12-15 inchers and only a few over 15, but I mostly fish crappie there (unless some of you bassers have some suggestions) I'l be going out there next week and can hopefully give a report or two. Good luck and keep us informed.
