Re: KY Lake this weekend.
My and a few buddies are leaving tomorrow to go to KY lake for the weekend. We want to catch some crappie, but I am afraid we may be a little early for the spawn. I was just wondering if these warmer days have brought any crappie shallow, or if you guys have heard what is productive and at what depth.
The way you guys are talking about the bass we may need to change our plans but I am just happy to get out on the best lake around. Thanks in advance.
There have been several black crappie being caught by casting jigs to pea gravel banks in 3-5 ft of water. I dont know what this cold front will do to them though
Re: KY Lake this weekend.
Crappie fished Barkley this past Sat. and had 19. Bass fished KY Sunday in the wind and saw a guy casting to lay downs and wacking the crappie.
Re: KY Lake this weekend.
Great thanks. how did you catch your 19?
Re: KY Lake this weekend.
Caught all of them on brush piles 10' to 12' of water.
Re: KY Lake this weekend.
Got back from KY lake this weekend. It was cold out there but in 2 days fishing we cleaned about 230 fish between the five of us. We mostly fished the Tennesee river right behind the KY lake Dam. I really wanted to get out on the lake and catch some of those bass but not my boat so I was along for the trip. We caught blugill, yellow bass, whites, largemouth, smallmouth, and crappie. Some real nice crappie, we found them late on the trip if we could have found them early we would have cleaned mostly crappie.
We caught them on 2 inch twister tail grubs , I used mostly white jigs tipped with a wax worm, on 1/8 ounce jig heads. Some of the other guys used chartruse tubes. We would put the boat in about 20 foot of water cast to the bank and slow roll the jigs across the bottom. They wanted it slow. Had a great time and got some good fish to eat.
Re: KY Lake this weekend.
Isn't the limit 20 per person? Just asking.

I am guessing there were alot of different fishes in the fillet bags.
Re: KY Lake this weekend.
I know and follow the rules. We had mixed bags for sure, caught about 30 crappie all together. Thanks for watching the livewell though captain guide book.
