ive got a problem that maybe someone has had and can tell me what to do. the reel works fine except sometimes if i get hung up or have a fish on it will release the spool and cause one heck of a backlash. the reel was gave to me from a fishin buddy and i dont want to not use it. any ideas on what is going on?
Man I would think that the anti reverse gear is stripped. I'm not an expert by no means.
Send it back to Shimano, or call customer support first. I think there is a recall on it and you may get a new Cardiff to replace it.:) Seriously.....

does it matter that i dont have a receipt? it was a gift
I'm not totally for sure. I would check into it though. Go to [URL="http://www.shimano.com"]www.shimano.com[/URL] and click on North America or United States. Then find the phone number for customer support and check with them. Let me know how it comes out for you.........
