Ohio River
Hey gents, Fairly new to the forum here in Kentucky, been on and off for many years in Florida. Like to fish for anything that fights and bites. Friend of mine, Boatbum, turned me on to sauger fishing on the river but once they open up the dam, it's impossible to fish the spot he showed me. How do you guys handle the higher faster water? Any suggestions for downstream spots? Love sauger and walleye..... so does the wife which makes it easier to get out if I bring her some dinner!

Re: Ohio River
My advice for the falls is to follow the crowds. Where ever you see people bunched together, that is where the fish are. The problem with the water at the level it is now, the good spots are limited in size. Other then that, at least for me, I use the same techniques.

Re: Ohio River
Yeah, I work with Mike...... as for me, I'm an old dog just trying to learn the river....... Caught about a 12-15# blue fishing for sauger a week or 2 ago. Got him on 6# test! Boatbum was there.... Been said that I can catch a fish or 2.... worked charters in Florida for 24 years or so........ Once this weather stabilizes a little I'll be burning up some vacation days. I'll let you guys know when just in case Mike starts getting annoyed at me outfishing him and I need a partner!

Re: Ohio River
Sunday weather looks good. Long range for Monday is 80% chance of rain. Mike Martin has a buddy that has a pond near Taylorsville that usually has some nice crappie in it! I'm trying to get with him to get us permission to fish it!

I normally fish below the parking lot as you come to the Falls Nature Center when the water is high like now. Where are some good places to try from the bank down there?

Re: Ohio River
It's a tough spot but if you stop at the little parking area before the interpretive center and look down at the bank, there's a downed tree. Often causes a big enough break to hold fish!
