Trying to save gas in the boat
I'm not worried about speed at all. I have a 96 stratos with a 175 hp motor. It seems like I get 4 mpg. I can be on plane at 3200 rpms that pushes alot of water. At 4000 to 4500 rmps can be on pad 1 to 3 people respectively. and then 5500 rpms going 64 mph. What rpm range is best for gas mileage
Re: Trying to save gas in the boat
i would check into mercury's website.... i know our 175 merc pro xs does good at 5300 rpm it burns about 10 gallons an hour but if i peg it to the floor it burns oh 16 or so gallons an hour..... but they say u burn more at lower rpms on merc's webpage but i dunno if there is any truth to it... i hope this helps...
Re: Trying to save gas in the boat
On my Merc 225, I get the best mileage, according to the smart gauge, is running about 4500rpm which is about 50mph on my boat.
Re: Trying to save gas in the boat
my 200 optimax seems to be very consistant @ 4500 rpm's around 55mph. Anything beyond that I can watch the gauge drop like sand in the hour glass.
