Help With Engine Problem, Please!!
I have a 1997 Evinrude 150, it has been in the shop for 2 months with the same problem. I have paid for the replacement of the power pack and optical sensor and still not fixed. The problem is after getting planed out the motor starts missing or sputering like its not getting gas. The carbs have been gone thru and are fine. It runs fine with rabbit ears but under a load it starts missing around 30mph and continues thru the rpm range to 4500rpm. It should go 60mph but now will not do 50mph. Any one have any ideas what it could be. Thanks

First of all if you are paying a mechanic and still not fixed you need get your money back and take it somewhere else.Going to guess it is a coil going bad.Got a 250 pro xs less than a year old and just got it fixed.Problem is if it has not gone out almost completly it does not show up when hooked to the computer.Hope you get it resolved but if you got a good mechanic should not be a problem.Good luck.

Re: Help With Engine Problem, Please!!
Maybe you got a fuel line collapsing or might have something in the fuel tank that is causing a restriction.
Re: Help With Engine Problem, Please!!
? deposits from old gas. friend's nitro once that did same thing - mechanic said bad power pack - he replaced and did same thing. needed to be run! fuel deposits/junk needed to be burned off to allow full throttle/power. this taught me the utility of sta-bil over winter and the benefit of using the motor regularly ("but honey I HAVE to fish or the motor will lock up.....")
Re: Help With Engine Problem, Please!!
That brings back bad memories for me. In 2006 my 96 evinrude intruder 175 acted like that under load. Turned out the top bearing had went out. would run fine idling. Hope that's not it. If you look at the black round plastic piece with cuts in it for timing per the optical sensor. If it is wore like something rubbing on the side. Go get a loan cause it is gonna be ugly. Took a new powerhead for me. It would run fine until it wore that timing piece out then buck and jump

seems to me more people r having problems with fuel i had a similar problem i was running around 6000 and it would drop to around 5200 and pic back up though i had some bad problems come to find out it was the cheap wally world gas i was getting i have heard that the elthonal draws in moisture it runs fine in the truck but not the boat chevron gas seems to be the best for the boat
Re: Help With Engine Problem, Please!!
I agree with the bad gas, Go to a marina and get a gas additive, run that tank out,or siffen the tank and never buy gas from that station again. Had this problem last year with bad gas. ( Cadiz ) After I put gas additive in both my tanks, still had problems until I ran both tanks out. Just always watch where you buy your gas. I hope that is the problem you have.
With a coil going out, your boat will take 200 lb. person up front and 1/4 mile of water before u will get on plane, and your top end will be around 3000 RPM. Well good Luck
