Federal Gasoline Tax
I just saw on Wave 3 that the Federal Road Fund is facing a shortfall of 7 to 8 BILLION Dollars so the Obama administration is recommending that Congress raise the gas tax by .40 cants a gallon. They give hundreds of billions of dolloars to banks, auto makers, etc. and just keep giving but when they need money to build and repair our highways they want the taxpaying, working stiff, users to pay for it. Amazing!!

Re: Federal Gasoline Tax
It just burns me up that the first thing the government does when it's low on money is just automatically tax us more. Their first thought SHOULD be to lower spending.
I wish we could just decide to pay lower taxes when our household budgets run short.

Re: Federal Gasoline Tax
Kind of reminds me of the Kentucky Lottery. Back in the 80's when the lottery was approved it was said that profits from the lottery would go towards education on all levels in Kentucky, elementary, high school and collegiate, and maybe it did...for awhile. Now all we hear is the education funds are slim to none....Now fast forward to last fall when the talk of stimulus began....I thought the stimulus money was going to go for rebuilding/repairing/bringing up to date and up to code our infrastructures...which includes government buildings and "road repair"....Phooey!!
I sure do like this fishin.com website and all you fella's on here, I also appreciate the things I read from you all, it's very enlightening, in fact I wouldn't be aware of some of the things going on in the world if it wasn't for fishin.com...but lots of times all some of these threads do is raise my blood pressure and make me want to go sit somewhere, drink a beer and listen to some Merle Haggard.

LOL! Thats true for sure. During the Presidential Campaign it raised my a point or two.
One thing I have learned is that any Political figure will say anything to appease the masses. They are usually liars, cheats and crooks. So when I hear how good our gubment is on helping the economy with all this money they are spending I say "Phooey" as well.
If they were really and truely trying to help they would have given TAX PAYING MIDDLE CLASS alot more money so we could jump start the economy instead they gave it to business, political friends and corps that got us into this mess. So now where are all those Trillions? Where is this jump start? Does not exist. What will get us out of this funk is hard work and time.....of course the goobers in Washington will take credit.
Can you imagine if all tax paying people didn't pay taxes for a year or two or at least payed 75% less? Let the gubment loan themselves money to run the country and give us our portion of the trillions and see what happens. Cars, Houses and mercantile business would jump!

Re: Federal Gasoline Tax
I wish we could get a grass roots movement started to go with a flat tax 10% or whatever. All overseas companies that have any home offices or were started here pay 10% on overseas profits as well no more loopholes PERIOD. Along the same line a few weeks ago there was an email floating around about giving some folks that were capabale of retiring a million bucks. I know this was started out as a joke but why would that not work? I also would like to see mandatory military service for all politicians offspring.....maybe we would find a way to not be the worlds great saviour if they had to sacrifice there first born to the cause....

I'm in favor of doing away with income tax and going to a simple consumption tax.
But as soon as they do that - which they won't - they'll figure out other ways to sneak in more and more taxes and pad their fat wallets.
