Engine Opinion
I'm looking at a 2007 Ranger 519VX with an 200 Evinrude E-tec. I'm a little skeptical on the E-tec's. I've heard bad and good about them, but I guess that's with every engine. What's your opinions. I prefer a HPDI but for the price it's kind of hard to pass up.

Re: Engine Opinion
Don't be skeered, "Evinrude vs Mercury" is like a "Ford vs Chevy" each are good and seem better to the guys who desire them"
I've heard:
"Blue is true" and "black is wack" amongst other sayings but I know Dave Stewart has the 200 etec and that baby hummed, and he's on the water more than any of us

Re: Engine Opinion
There are two kinds of motors...those that are going to blow...and those that have blown....everybody has an opinion about a certain brand of motor and everybody likes what they have on their boat....i personally have a yamaha Vmax and wouldnt trade it for anything...just have the motor gone through before you buy and if it checks out thats all you can do

Re: Engine Opinion
The motor doesn't need to be inspected because it's brand new and has never been in the water.

They will all be in the shop sooner or later, just make sure you have a good service department or mechanic close by.

Are you in real estate? That phrase is WAY overused with realtors! Ha ha ha!
"There's two kinds of concrete, concrete that's cracked, and concrete that's gonna crack..."
Just thought that was funny.
As for the motors - being a 2007 model, I'd say you're in good shape no matter what brand it is. The fuel injection technology on outboards has come a long ways - the mid to late 90s are the year models that you really had to pick and choose....nowadays, they're all pretty reliable, as long as they've been cared for and properly winterized each year...that's the biggie right there ;)

Re: Engine Opinion
I have a 2006 225ho and have zero problems, except for those that was self imposed.
Recommend having the oil setting on XD-50 and run XD100. And you should be ok. Great motor, I had a Yamaha and traded for the E-tec and never looked back...

Are there different settings on the motor for the type of oil to run? I'm a little confused. What is the differece between XD50 and XD100?
