Cumberland River Below Dam
Thinking about going to Wolf Creek Dam to fish at Kendall area on Wednesday from the bank. Is anyone having any luck or should I not waste my time. I never have luck in fishing and have only been there once and didn't catch a single fish. Sad part is that I am strictly a catch and release person. My wife, kids and I dont like eating fish. I wish I could communicate with the fish so they would know this, maybe they would give me a chance. Hope to hear from someone.

I have not been there, but talked to a couple guys fishing the dix friday.
They said they are running the sluise gate and dumping about 6000........I fished with a canoe last year at 2500, and that was FINE.
They said they were STILL catching decent numbers of fish......
Anyone else have any updates...........I KNOW you guys are fishing there :)

Geo

Try some blue fox spinners with orange or xrap #6 with orange if going for trout always had good luck with that, but it has been a month since I was there.

Thanks for the info guys. I went today and it was a zero for me other than a couple of small bluegill. I was just fishing off of the bank. Boaters that were in the middle of the channel seemed to be catching some fish. Those of us on the bank didn't seem to be having any luck. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong. It was an awesome day to be outside enjoying nature. Thanks again for the advice.

How much current was running...............did that have open 1 or 2 sluice gates?
Not even sure they can open 2.........How deep was the water just off the boat ramp......
Were people having trouble launching boats......

Re: Cumberland River Below Dam
Talked to a buddy of mine today who fishes the CR all the time (and if he reads this, I'll be getting my buck back soon!:D) and he said that the river is at a good level right now, and it looks like we will be back down to low flow levels soon! I'm both excited by this info, and worried. I'm excited because it means that I can fly fish the CR again, but I'm worried because of the already high water temps.
My same buddy said that he has caught numerous stripers, and has even had stripers smash his trout as he is reeling them in! With all the high water this year, the stripers have moved up in big numbers. Might be time to throw the old rainbow trout swim bait! :D
Well, my CR bretheren, I hope I am wrong when I say that the glory days at the CR might be a thing of the past! Keep your lines tight!

Re: Cumberland River Below Dam
Just got back from a 3 camp on the CR. They are running one sluce gate 24 hours. I floated from the dam down to the power line's with no trouble and ran back up in a 17 foot tin boat with out any problem and getting back was not a problem. Caught many fish on power bait, color did not matter I dont think. Took friends who never caught a trout and they caught more then I did, many more. I did get the chance to tie on a lot of hook's for them and the little woman. I needed something to do being I had a lot of free time on my hands. Stayed at the camp grounds, best around I do think. Seen a few walleye being caught crank baits.
Helms landing could be a problem for bigger tin boats. The ramp at the dam no problem for tin or glass boats.
Wading would not be any problem at all.
Hope this helps

Hey.......THANKS for the info.......I'm trying to get there one or 2 more times before I head to Canada in 2 weeks.......
If not before.......then maybe a couple after, and a few in the fall.
You guys seeing any trout dying due to the water issues.
Much THANKS for the info.

Good fishing to you....Have never had much luck fishing from the bank below the park area, with the exception of May/June Walleye fishing using jerkbaits in the early AM. But, I understand some people are catching trout bank fishing using night crawlers, minnows, corn, etc. If you go, consider using a C or TX rig with night crawlers on the bottom of the river. OH, if you do, take along a lot of terimal tacke....this river takes it's due when you bottom fish. :(
