Taking the family to Cumberland, may be Friday late afternoon. Putting in around Burnside. I have bass fished the area some but do not know much about good spots for Bluegills or Crappie. Any tips or ideas. Thanks.

Crappie can be tough at Cumberland this time of year. However if you are staying at a dock and they allow it place a light at dusk on the water and fish minnows under those lights well after dark and you should get a few. There are some bigguns that hand around the docks to.
Now bluegill I can help you with. Fish with slip bobbers and fish deep. Start at aroung 8 feet and if the little ones are still bothering you go deeper. Any visible bank cover will hold the gills this time of year. Crickets is my personal favorite bait for gills on the big C. The bigger bulls hang out deeper that's why instructed you to fish deep with slip bobbers. If it's bites you want and numbers and you care nothing about the size fish next to the banks 5 foot or less with crickets or waxworms and you will catch all the Pumkinseeds and small gills you care to look at. Good luck have fun and be safe.
Mark, have you ever used those small bream for Striper bait?

No....but there are some guys that do, with decent success sometimes I've heard. I met a fella once I still see him from time to time that comes from over at Grider with you. He bait's limb lines of an evening for catfish with live baby pumpkinseeds. This bank is over in Whipperwill Creek and it's one of my go to banks for bass. I use to watch him Cuss of a morning sometimes knocking smallmouth some of'em big ones off of those limb lines. He'd look at me and grin and say dang ole smallmouth won't stay off my lines, lol. He had one come off one morning while he was trying to unhook it that was an easy 6# maybe a little bigger.
