Having problem with optimax
Just wandering if any you guys had any suggestions. Having problem with my 225 optimax 2000 model. When you start it up it's runs fine idling and half throttle, but when you push throttle to the floor to hole shot. It starts jumping and knocking then it dies like it ran out of gas. It want start back until you trim the motor out of the water. Then it will die again just as soon you push throttle. Had mechanic check everything on it. Found no problems on computer and no problem on diagonistic test. Thanks for any help.

Had sorta a similar problem with my EFI. It would quit when almost up on plane. Dad was with me when it started acting up and by a stroke of luck he checked the bulb right after the 3rd time it happened and it had no pressure in it. So try changing the bulb on your fuel line. I've heard but can't confirm that today's gas has more ethanol which is hard on rubber such as fuel lines and the bulbs on fuel lines. May not fix your problem but its fairly cheap to try. I've not had a minutes worth of trouble since I changed mine. And if it works then I'll look like a genius. lol
Good luck and hope it gets to running like it should.

Had a similar problem last winter on my 250 optimax sportjet. Happened once and then not again for a while. When it happened again it just kept dying when I tried to power up. My mechanic replaced the fuel pump and all is well.

Go to bbc boards, and go to the mercury outboards site, there are some guys on there that have been mercury mechanics for many many years, and they are very willing to help you out with any problems you have.

I tried this site when I had a question about my lowrance and got 3 answers within 15 minutes after sitting on hold with lowrance for 45 minutes with no answer. Great resource.
